Even though Walter Jones has gone on the Seahawks' injured reserve list, ending his season and perhaps his illustrious career, the six-time All-Pro left tackle wants to attempt a return in 2010. Instead of retiring, the 35-year-old Jones said Wednesday "I still want to play." He faces yet another long rehabilitation for his left knee, on which he's had two surgeries since he last...  

There is still a chance Walter Jones will play for the Seahawks this season, though that chance is dwindling. Coach Jim Mora said Monday upon Seattle's return from a bye week that the nine-time Pro Bowl left tackle is "iffy" to practice this week. The 35-year-old Jones is trying to return from two surgeries on his left knee since December.  

The Seattle Seahawks have signed guard Mike Gibson onto their active roster off Philadelphia's practice squad as they continue to shuffle their battered offensive line. The Seahawks also announced Wednesday they had signed former fill-in starting tackle Kyle Williams to their practice squad. They had released him on Tuesday, two days after he started in a 27-3 loss to Arizona.  

It's a chicken or egg quandary for the Seahawks. And the chicken, like almost everyone else in Seattle, is beat up. For the last two seasons, the Seahawks have convinced themselves that an epidemic of injuries is what has caused the former four-time defending NFC West champions to go 6-16 since the start of 2008, including 2-4 this season entering their bye.  

In recent seasons, former coach Mike Holmgren turned grandfatherly during the Seahawks' bye weeks. Turning 60 and already owning a Super Bowl ring, he boldly gave his players the entire week off. They'd go on far-flung vacations or just relax and heal at home with family and friends. It was wildly popular, of course, like Spring Break in October.  

The daughter of Seahawks quarterback Matt Hasselbeck is recovering after surgery to repair injuries sustained on a family trip to Central Washington over the bye weekend. Hasselbeck posted on his Twitter site Tuesday he had the "worst bye week ever. 6 year old daughter got hit by a dirt bike." The 34-year-old father of three said he spent his weekend at the hospital.  

Kyle Williams was cut by Seattle for failing at left tackle, two days after Matt Hasselbeck got sacked five times in a dreadful 27-3 loss to Arizona. Before that, Brandon Frye, Sean Locklear and star Walter Jones all were hurt playing the most important position on the offensive line. That makes Damion McIntosh Seattle's Plan E at left tackle.  

Super Bowl-winning coach Mike Holmgren swapped coaching techniques with three of England's top coaches Friday and offered some advice on how to handle high-priced stars. The former Green Bay Packers and Seattle Seahawks coach said the biggest challenge is to keep players focused on winning games rather than securing bigger contracts.  

Sean Locklear will start at left tackle for the Seahawks in Sunday's key divisional game at Arizona. Seattle first-round pick Aaron Curry was injured late in the fourth quarter against the Houston Texans on Sunday. The linebacker was injured trying to make a tackle and lay on the field for a few minutes before being helped to his feet and taken away on a cart. It was unclear what his injury was but he appeared to be holding one of his arms as he was carted away.  

This season, Wednesday has become quarterback Matt Hasselbeck's routine day for rest. And he has almost as many aches as weeks in the season. The battered 34-year-old, three-time Pro Bowl passer sat out another practice with a sore throwing shoulder, but coach Jim Mora said Hasselbeck is probable to start for the Seahawks on Sunday at Houston.  

The Seattle Seahawks have retired their neon-green jerseys after just one game. The Seahawks were widely panned for wearing the jerseys during a home loss to the Chicago Bears on Sept. 27. Matt Hasselbeck is back practicing with the Seahawks -- and tired of talking about his health. The shoulder that had been paining him got worse last weekend on a tackle at the end of a scramble against San Francisco.  

Matt Hasselbeck is goal-oriented. Right now, that leaves him and his Seahawks in an altered state. Seattle's captain and three-time Pro Bowl quarterback has stopped talking about the goals the team set this summer -- winning the NFC West for the fifth time in six seasons, or at least returning to the playoffs after a one-year absence.  

Safety Deon Grant said the Seahawks defense is finally playing the way he thought it would. "The defense that I promised a lot of people before the season started, we're finally getting it together," he said. "We've just got to keep on going and keep building off of that." Seattle's defense has been the catalyst behind the team's first two-game winning streak of the season, holding both the Rams and the 49ers to just 17 points in consecutive...  

Seattle Seahawks running back Julius Jones left Sunday's game against Arizona early in the first quarter with a chest injury. Jones carried the ball twice for 10 yards. His departure left Justin Forsett as Seattle's primary back. It was not immediately known if he would return or not.  

Frustrated over what's become a lost season for his Seahawks, Jim Mora used sarcasm to make a point he hopes gets heard throughout league headquarters. Protect my quarterback, too. Seattle's coach delivered an exaggerated message Monday: If referees aren't going to call it, then his defenders should be pressing their forearms into the throats of opposing quarterbacks.  

Adrian Peterson doesn't know much about "poison pills" in contracts. All the Vikings superstar running back knows is that six-time Pro Bowl guard Steve Hutchinson is clearing holes for him. And that Hutchinson isn't doing anything for anybody anymore in Seattle. "If you could see me, I'm doing a dance right now, because we got him and you all don't," the NFC's...  

Josh Wilson is unlikely to play Sunday at Minnesota because of a concussion, leaving the Seahawks without a starting cornerback against Brett Favre and the high-flying Vikings. Seattle coach Jim Mora said after Wilson missed his third consecutive practice Friday that there is only a slight chance he will play.  

Arizona Cardinals starting linebackers Gerald Hayes and Chike Okeafor were inactive for Sunday's game against the Seattle Seahawks. Both had back injuries. Inside linebacker Hayes missed his second straight game, again replaced by Ali Highsmith. Bertrand Berry replaced Okeafor at outside linebacker.  

The Seahawks were once hallowed within the NFC West. A prolific, multidimensional offense was backed by a big-play defense and one of the league's loudest home-field advantages, helping Seattle win four consecutive division titles and reach the Super Bowl after the 2005 season. Now, Seattle is hollow.  

Minnesota Vikings cornerback Antoine Winfield is inactive for his fourth straight game Sunday, against the Seattle Seahawks. Winfield has not played since Oct. 18 because of a foot injury. He was listed as doubtful on the injury report Friday. Benny Sapp started in his place. The Vikings were also without backup defensive tackle Fred Evans, who was ill for most of the week.  

The Seattle Seahawks' two starting cornerbacks have been diagnosed with concussions. Marcus Trufant and Josh Wilson didn't practice Wednesday, and Seahawks coach Jim Mora didn't specifically address their playing status for Sunday's game against Brett Favre and the Minnesota Vikings. "We'll have a couple guys that might be limited (in practice), but nothing serious,"...  

The Seattle Seahawks have waived fill-in starting left tackle Kyle Williams. The move announced Tuesday suggests that Damion McIntosh knows enough of the offense to start in Seattle's next game on Nov. 1 at Dallas or that nine-time Pro Bowl left tackle Walter Jones will be ready to make his season debut then.  

Kurt Warner was back to throwing with MVP-like precision. Larry Fitzgerald was dominating again, catching everything near him. The defense was swarming, putting the Arizona Cardinals back to the top of the mild NFC West after early-season mediocrity. Determining whether the defending conference champions are back to elite status comes next.  

Former Seattle Seahawks safety Terreal Bierria has been arrested in the killing of a Louisiana man. St. Tammany Parish Sheriff Jack Strain said Tuesday that Bierria, who played for Seattle in 2002 and 2004, has been charged with one count of first-degree murder. Authorities say the victim was 29-year-old Soron Salter of Slidell.  

Marcus Trufant squinted into the autumn fog drifting off the Seahawks' practice field. He flashed a sheepish grin. It was if he was a shy outcast, not a Seattle mainstay since his hometown team drafted him 11th overall in 2003. "I'm the new guy," the Pro Bowl cornerback from 2007 joked Tuesday, after his first practice since he injured his lower back in July.

Seahawks star linebacker Lofa Tatupu may not be out for the season after all. Seattle coach Jim Mora said Monday that further tests on the three-time Pro Bowler's chest muscle indicated a partial tear rather than the complete one doctors told him Tatupu had the day before. "After further review and further imaging, we're not certain yet Lofa is done.  

The Seahawks were again without nine-time Pro Bowl left tackle Walter Jones and three other starters for Sunday's game against Arizona. Seattle hopes to have Jones back from left knee surgery, plus guard Rob Sims and tackle Sean Locklear back from sprained ankles following the upcoming bye week. The 35-year-old Jones has yet to play this season.  

Already dealing with key injuries, the Seattle Seahawks took another hit on Sunday, losing middle linebacker Lofa Tatupu for the season with a torn left pectoral muscle. Seattle coach Jim Mora announced Tatupu would miss the rest of the season and need surgery following Seattle's 27-3 loss to the Arizona Cardinals.  

Homecomings aren't what they used to be for Julius Jones. Last year he had Seattle's date against his former team circled and highlighted beginning seven months before the Seahawks played at Dallas. He then called it "a huge game for me," adding that he was "a little salty" about the way he went from owner of the Cowboys' first 1,000-yard season since Emmitt Smith in...  

Marcus Trufant will make his season debut for the Seahawks on Sunday at Dallas. Seattle activated the 2007 Pro Bowl cornerback from the physically-unable-to-perform list Friday. Last week was the first time Trufant had practiced since July, when a disk issue in his back began. Coach Jim Mora expects Trufant to play mainly in nickel defensive alignments on passing downs against the Cowboys.  

Seattle cornerback Ken Lucas did not return after he sustained a shoulder stinger in the third quarter of the Seahawks' game Sunday against the Dallas Cowboys. Lucas was hurt trying to bring down running back Felix Jones in Dallas' 38-17 victory. On the tackle, Jones pushed Lucas to the ground, and the ninth-year cornerback landed awkwardly.  

Seattle's fourth fallen star had his season end Thursday. A team spokesman said three-time Pro Bowl middle linebacker Lofa Tatupu went on the injured reserve list while he was having surgery to repair a torn left pectoral muscle in Alabama. Tatupu traveled there to consult with noted orthopedic surgeon Dr.  

Jim Mora has passed frustration and entered desperation in Seattle. He needs guys who swallow metal. "I'd like a whole team of nail eaters!" the coach of the 5-8 Seahawks bellowed this week, during a fist-pounding, voice-raising call for more "nastiness," more "dirtbags" on the field to combat losing -- and a league-wide perception that Seattle is soft.  

Mike Singletary had a message for his 49ers the night before San Francisco played the Seahawks recently. According to Seattle coach Jim Mora, Singletary said: "If you walk into Seattle and punch them in the face, they won't react." "I know that's what Mike Singletary said on Saturday night before we played them two weeks ago," Mora said Wednesday during a fist-pounding...  

Nate Burleson has a high ankle sprain and may not play again this season for the Seahawks. Coach Jim Mora said Wednesday that Burleson is out for Sunday's game against Tampa Bay. Mora says the team has a decision to make on what they want to do with him over the final three games of the season. He could end up on injured reserve to clear a roster spot.  

Jim Mora's optimism is ebbing. The Seahawks coach didn't have the same fiery emotion and frustration Monday as he did immediately after his team's most lopsided loss of the season, 34-7 at Houston on Sunday. Yet he had the same impression of the result. "I'm very discouraged right now.  

Matt Schaub and Andre Johnson put together their best game of the season to help the Houston Texans out of a slump and keep their dwindling playoff hopes alive. Johnson had a season-high 193 yards receiving and two touchdowns to lead the Texans (6-7) to a 34-7 win over the Seattle Seahawks (5-8) on Sunday to break a four-game losing streak.  

All offseason, Tony Romo and the Dallas Cowboys thought about their horrendous finale in Philadelphia. Now they're headed back, playing so well that they've turned this return trip into a showdown to decide first place in the NFC East. Romo threw touchdown passes to three receivers, including his new favorite target Miles Austin, and didn't have an interception for a career-best third...  

Jim Mora is crafting more messages than wins right now. The Seattle coach just released some veterans, including Edgerrin James, the NFL's active leading rusher. He promoted running back Louis Rankin, formerly released by the equally woeful Raiders, from the practice squad. The message is clear: those who aren't producing had better start doing so when the Seahawks host the one-win Detroit...  

The Edgerrin James experiment in Seattle is over. The struggling Seahawks cut ties with James on Tuesday, releasing the backup running back who never provided the pop Seattle hoped to get when it signed the 31-year-old in late August. James' release was one of a handful of moves Seattle made two days after a lackluster 38-17 loss that dropped the Seahawks to 2-5.  

For someone who's never carried the ball in a regular season game, the Seattle Seahawks are sure enamored with running back Louis Rankin. To the point where the NFL's active rushing leader, Edgerrin James, was sent away earlier this week to see if Rankin could provide a missing jolt for Seattle's struggling run game.  

Matt Hasselbeck had a throbbing shoulder, to go with broken ribs. His Seahawks had even bigger issues. Faster than you can say "road kill," they were down 17-0 at home to the Lions. Seahawks defensive back Roy Lewis says he is appealing a $5,000 fine from the league for a late hit. Lewis said Thursday he was docked for hitting Detroit's Derrick Williams out of bounds at the end of a kickoff return Sunday. He was penalized with a personal foul. Lewis says teammate Lance Laury was also fined $5,000 by the NFL for a late hit on the same play.
