Wiki Declaration of Purpose

My Wiki thrives to be an informative and opinionated wiki allowing for open debate and discussion. I would like my wiki to be used by people around the world concerned with human rights and who thrive to bring the issues and political negligence such as the post-election madness in Kenya, to the surface. As media is the strongest form of communication, be it diffusion brokerage, non-relational diffusion or relational diffusion –which opens the spectrum from a face-to-face relationship to an Internet publication/e-mail sent to millions of people in the world. I would like my wiki to make people aware of what is going on in Kenya and the suffering the people of Kenya are going through. I believe together, armed with knowledge, something can be done. What? That depends upon the response of those interested in the wiki and read and watch articles and videos posted. I am also asking people to post articles or questions/comments or information they feel are relevant. Information is knowledge and knowledge is power, we will be armed and able to possibly collaborate to create something powerful through the media, nationally and internationally.
As I mentioned, knowledge is power and my wiki aims to arm those currently unarmed.

Dennis Itumbi reports from Nairobi, Kenya, for Journalism.co.uk: The Kenyan media is under pressure from the government over coverage of the fallout from the disputed general election results in the east African Country in December last year . The country’s Independent Review Commission (IRC), which is tasked with investigating the post-election violence, has heard that the media’s live broadcasts were immature and used vernacular language to incite reactions from audiences when results went against their own political convictions. “The media announced different results and did not provide guidance when disputes arose; the media failed the nation when it needed it most,” Moses Kuria, a ... The much a waited Cabinet is finally here? The reports are trickling in that PNU and ODM are ready to form the new cabinet. After haggling for almost a month about every little things imaginable and PNU brigades with their usual antics showing their true colours and how myopic they really can be/are, Kenyans had been reduced to mere spectators save for their fate being in the precipice. Addressing reporters after talks, Mr Odinga said the agreement has been reached and that the new cabinet will be formally announced on 6 April. "We have agreed to announce the cabinet on Sunday and that the ... Read Full Story

The media plays a vital role in the way people perceive the world, a situation, a story and even an individual. In terms of war, violence and political dismal - the media's role is crucial. The media must be able to give both sides of the story, attempt to be fair and present the events rather than making, exaggerating or changing a story in order to catch the attention of people. This goes against everything I would assume journalists are taught, but don't people want to know the truth? When the Kenyan elections were taking place, for a moment in time the media was ... Upon attending a talk given by my fellow Kenyan's on the post-election situation in Kenya, I wanted to share what I learnt. The graduate students who were presenting their views, opinions and findings on Kenya, found this chaos and the reaction of the elections not shocking at all, yet the extent to which it has gone is unspeakable. No one ever imagined such turmoil could come out of those wanting a fair and valid vote or a voice to speak.  The disgrace was mainly upon those who ran the elections and even defended the situation after votes were clearly rigged. This was "pure negligence" screamed ... Read Full Story
