The 26-year-old Belgian quit the sport in May 2007, worn down by a series of injuries and many years of traveling the world and competing at the top. The recently unretired Kim Clijsters has easily won her first match at the U.S. Open since taking home the 2005 title. She beat Viktoriya Kutuzova of Ukraine 6-1, 6-1. Clijsters went ahead 5-0 in 20 minutes and stayed in control throughout, wrapping up the victory by reeling off the last 11 points. Kim Clijsters wants to return to professional tennis full-time. The 2005 U.S. Open champion is ending a two-year retirement next week, making her World TeamTennis Pro League debut with matches in St. Louis on Tuesday and Philadelphia on Wednesday. WTA tournaments in Mason, Ohio, and Toronto will follow, in preparation for the U.S. Open, which begins Aug. 31.
