How the Kardashians Can Recapture America

Last week, we took a look at the various ways the wheels have seemingly tumbled off the Kardashian kaboose (sorry, but we're suckers for intentionally misspelled alliteration). Meanwhile, the vast majority of Zimbio readers remain convinced the world has turned on the reality TV family.

But if Robert Downey Jr., Carrot Top and Mickey Rourke have taught us anything, it's that America loves a good old-fashioned comeback. With more cash at their disposal than Nicolas Cage would feel comfortable spending at a rare dinosaur bone auction, and one of the most well-known names in the world, there's no reason why the Kardashians should have any trouble reviving their brand. And here's how they'll do it.

Get Charitable

It wasn't too long ago that Microsoft founder Bill Gates came across as a money-hungry man, hell-bent on controlling the world. Today, the billionaire is widely considered one of the more respected and honorable businessmen in the world, largely because he has overseen the donation of billions of dollars through the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.

But if the family would take a break from its reality shows and actively throw the Kardashian name behind a charitable organization, the world would surely take notice. With a reported net worth of $65 million, we're confident they can find a few dollars to donate.

Step (Slightly) Out of the Limelight

As the architect and matriarch of the family, Kris Jenner has built a lucrative empire around the Kardashian name. Like any product, be it Coca Cola or Old Spice, marketing and exposure have been paramount to their success. But while society has become inured to aggressive ad campaigns, and desensitized to innocuous drivel, Kim and co. would benefit from taking a step back, even if that means canning one of their hit reality TV shows.

In the wake of the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, gold medal winner Shawn Johnson was voted America's Most-Liked Sports Figure according to E-Poll Market Research, a firm that tracks celebrity likability ratings. Why? Perhaps because "she didn't overexpose herself after the Olympics," suggested E-Poll Chief Executive Gerry Philpott.

In that same E-Poll, participants were asked to describe their favorite sports figures using as many descriptive words as possible. The most common adjective used: trustworthy.

While we're sure Kim K would argue she's never told a lie, many felt cheated by the fiasco that was her 10-week marriage to Kris Humphries. After Kris Jenner said the family "didn't earn a dime" off the wedding, Gawker responded by calling her words "total bulls----."

If the Kardashians hope to rebrand themselves and recapture America, they'll have to build trust. If the family wants to cash in on a televised wedding, that's fine. But they should embrace their ability to rake in millions of dollars. Transparency is key. And the sooner the Kardashians realize that, the sooner they can rebuild their image.
