Japanese media on Monday hailed veteran Kimiko Date-Krumm's first tournament victory in 13 years, which made her the oldest winner of a WTA event since Billie Jean King in 1983. Date-Krumm, who celebrated her 39th birthday on Monday, won the Korean Open on Sunday in Seoul when she upset Spain's second seed Anabel Medina Garrigues 6-3, 6-3. The mass-circulation Yomiuri Shimbun wrote in a headline, "A series of fine shots makes up for a lack of speed" and the influential daily Asahi Shimbun praised her "fighting spirit". Q. You were so close. KIMIKO DATE KRUMM: Yeah, it's so close match. It was close match. I didn't know that almost three hours I was playing, because I like the hot place and I like more humid compared to qualifying. So I didn't feel. Just concentrate the match.
