Von Oelhoffen Available to Fill Steelers’ Need

If the Steelers want a veteran defensive linemen, a long-time Steeler linemen in is available just a year after the Steelers watched him leave.

The New Jersey Star Ledger is reporting that Kimo Von Oelhoffen is among the Jets cuts, although the Jets have not released their official list yet. It’s the Jets, so coach Eric Mangini is probably threatening to fine anyone who mentions the cuts.

As was speculated last week, it’s hard to imagine that the Steelers won’t call the veteran defensive end the minute he passes through waivers (he will as he’s a high-priced veteran) and see if they can bring him back to Pittsburgh.

Von Oelhoffen spent six seasons with Pittsburgh and helped the Steelers to the Super Bowl title in 2005 before leaving to sign a free-agent deal with the Jets in 2006. Although it was a three-year deal, the Jets kicked him to the curb just a year later after deciding he was overpriced.

That also means that Nick Eason, the defensive lineman who sits last on the current depth chart, shouldn’t be celebrating about making the team too much just yet.
