Today kite flying has evolved to become part of a form of popular sports. Kites have become a past time for people of all ages and it was only a matter of time before adults would find a way to diversify the activity. Now, this simple activity has been combined with another idea to create a new extreme sport! Harnessing the propulsive powers of the kite, and the surfboard, you have kite surfing!
Kitesurfing is a totally new way to have fun with the simple kite. This is just another attempt of mankind to escape the daily grueling activity that can be monotonous. The kite is used to pull the surfboard across the water.
Kite flying when combined with anther sport makes it exceptionally thrilling. Kites were used as propelling powers to move ships and arts to explore new lands back in the 1800’s. The rising cost of horse taxes has caused sailors to find an alternative and kites seem like a good idea.
In the 70’s Kevlar and Spectra flying kites were made, making them more controllable and efficient with more kite traction. Snow skis, roller skates, canoes ice skates and water skis utilized the propelling power of the kite back in the 1980’s. The world’s first inflatable kite was then invented in 1984. Since then, it has used by many companies to make their own products and in 1997 the ?Wipika? kite design was developed and sold.
It comes with a bridle system and inflatable tubes which helps it to be re-launched in the water. The kite-board was introduced and moved this form of sport into the mainstream. It is a mere ten years ago when the first kitesurfing competition tool place in the Island of Maui.
This pastime can be learned through kitesurfing schools which provide courses and lessons to teach students all the skill they need for this exciting recreation. There are a dozen of safety issues and kite-flying and launching and managing the lines. It may be quite challenging to use these safety devices at times so it is good to take time to learn from a qualified instructor.
The student who wishes to learn kitesurfing must master the art of body dragging. Body drag involves an upward lift instead of the forward move as in surfing. Apart from the standard equipment you may need to buy a life vest, gloves, booties, hood, wet suit and different kites for varying conditions which when totaled up can cost anything up to 3,000 dollars.
Kitesurfing can be dangerous so it is restricted to some locations for safety reasons. Do not worry though there are plenty of locations where this activity is allowed. As a final note: always ensure you follow safety instructions and you are wearing the proper equipment.
