Forgetting Sarah Marshall (2008) Review

 Peter (Jason Segel) takes a Hawaiian vacation to help get over his ex-girlfriend TV star Sarah Marshall (Kristen Bell). However that may prove more difficult than he first thought as she is there with her new boyfriend rock star Aldous Snow (Russell Brand). As you can imagine this is going to be a bit more difficult than Peter first thinks. But how long will it take him to release that someone is actually interested in him and wants to spend time and eventually be with him.

Now in recent years the standard of comedy films/romantic comedy films have not actually been very funny. I found this extremely funny in so many different parts. Even if what I was laughing at were really stupid things (I guess I sometimes have that type of humour). But from the getting dumped while being naked scene, to getting hit off a surf board, and the “competition” sex scene, also the “i’ve got a surprise for you” towel scene just before the break up scene is such a hilarious moment.

Russell Brand, now yes I could not get through this review without really mentioning him. I love him and think he is so funny in this movie, probably just really playing himself from what is put in the press (apart from the not drinking part). But really there is just something about him that I really cannot explain. He just seems to have some gift when it comes to women and I think he really does show that in this film. I love the scene when he is singing “inside of you” it’s just so hilarious the way he is moving about on the stage, also when he is doing the yoga he really can manoeuvre himself into some very flexible positions.

Hawaii is shown to be so fantastic from the shots in this movie, especially the blueness of the water which just looked amazing. It really is a place I would love to visit one day and watching this movie made me want to go even more. Anyone been before?

I am trying to think of how to exactly prove that this is actually a good rom-com as they are so labelled as I was really not expecting to like it at all. It’s just a really funny way to show a break-up which could hurt so much. But so real at the same time with everything going against him and just reminding him of Sarah. With him wanting her back and totally not realising what was right in front of him straight away. I did like it when he eventually realised it was for the best and he did not actually like her as a person anymore.

Whether you are a fan of romantic-comedy or not, I really would recommend this movie as it is extremely funny.
