Paterson: ‘No signal from me’ for Kennedy to quit Senate effort New York Gov. David Paterson said Sunday that Caroline Kennedy received "no signal from me that she had to withdraw" from her campaign to fill Hillary Clinton’s vacant U.S. Senate. Appearing at a news conference with the person he picked to fill that seat — Democratic Rep. Kirsten Gillibrand of Hudson in upstate New York — Paterson briefly answered reporters’ questions about the Kennedy withdrawal, saying the decision was entirely hers. "Caroline Kennedy called me on Wednesday to inform me that for personal reasons she had to withdraw," Paterson said. Originally posted here ... Read Full Story

NY GOVERNOR BLOWS CHOICE FOR CLINTON’S SENATE SEAT GOVERNOR PATERSON WITH KIRSTEN GILLIBRAND WHAT DID HE SEE IN HER? (Photo courtesy of NY Daily News) (Jan. 26, Albany, New York) The bumbling, stumbling, buffoonish Governor of New York, David “Blinky” Paterson has once again done the inexplicable. After a four week drama involving insiders, outsiders and politicos of all types in the cesspool of Albany and beyond, Blinky named an obscure, dimwitted, largely unknown, upstate Congresswomen, Kirsten Gillibrand. His choice was not only dumbfounding given the field from which he had to chose but also for the process by which he conducted the entire ... Read Full Story

Ending a wild 48-hour period where Hillary Clinton left the Senate to become Secretary of State to President Obama, New York Governor David Paterson named 42-year old New York Congresswoman Kirsten Gillibrand of upstate Columbia County, New York as the junior senator. It was a crushing defeat for Attorney Andrew Cuomo, widely exected to be the winner of this seat after Caroline Kennedy suddenly withdrew her name from consideration 24-hours earlier. In her thank you speech she seemed to spend a inordinate amount of time thanking the governor and the assembled politicians from the New york ongressional delegation. I wonder how the down state ... Partial Feed Problem Should Be Resolved For my feed subscribers, apparently only a partial story has been getting sent prompting you to come back to the site. That problem should now be rectified. Sorry for the inconvenience. The Kennedy For Senate Story Gets Some Clarity According to the Daily News, Caroline Kennedy was never in contention for the seat that has been vacated by Clinton. Although the press fell in love with the concept and the idea, Governor Paterson had the vision and clarity to never be swayed by the groundswell of public opinion and adoration. Common sense and the good of the people ... Read Full Story

Eric Holder says America is a "nation of cowards" when it comes to race. Of the mayor's plan to invest $45 million in retraining laid-off Wall Street workers, Patrick McGeehan writes that it "unclear how much of the damage to Wall Street can be repaired with such a small investment by the city." A new Marist Poll finds that 10 months after Kirsten Gillibrand (D) was appointed to the U.S. Senate she has failed to become a household name among registered voters in New York State. Just 25% of New York voters think Gillibrand is doing either an excellent or good job in office, and 12% believes she is performing poorly. Perhaps, though, Gillibrand's bigger concern is that 24% of the electorate is unsure how to rate her.

Filed under: Senate, Rudy Giuliani, Polls, Poll Watch, 2010 ElectionsWhen Kirsten Gillibrand was named earlier this year to fill the seat vacated by Hillary Clinton, the conventional wisdom was that if she hoped to win a full term next year in her own right, she would have to make herself better known across New York. The latest poll numbers show she still has her work cut out for her. Permalink | Email this | Linking Blogs | Comments

There’s been virtually no change over the past two months in the hypothetical Election 2010 Senate match-up in New York State between Democratic incumbent Kirsten Gillibrand and former Governor George Pataki. Including the fact that Pataki still hasn’t announced for the race. A new Rasmussen Reports telephone survey in the state finds Gillibrand leading Pataki 45% to 42%. Seven percent (7%) prefer some other candidate, and five percent are...

RIP Rudy Giuliani for governor, 2010. Some Giuliani insiders insist he's strongly considering a challenge to Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand now that he's out of the 2010 governor's race. A Marist poll shows him leading Gillibrand by double digits. ''Clearly, running for the U.S. Senate is a far smarter move for him, particularly if has any national aspirations,'' Marist pollster Lee Miringoff said. But Giuliani is jetting off to Florida for a...

A new Marist Poll in New York shows that Rudy Giuliani (D) would a formidable challenger to Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY) and now holds a 14 point lead, 54% to 40%. Key finding: "Even one-third of Democrats report they would back the Republican challenger, and Giuliani runs competitively against Gillibrand in overwhelmingly Democratic New York City." Reports suggest Giuliani has told confidants that he will likely run for Senate and not...
