Noppawan Lertcheewakarn Wins Girls Singles Title

Reuters
17 year old Noppawan Lertcheewakarn has won the girls singles title one year after being the finalist to Laura Robson. Her name is likely to be one of the most misspelled names in women's tennis should she become successful on the pro tour. Lertcheewakarn defeated Kristina Mladenovic of France in the finals, Mladenovic was the top seed and just turned 16 this year, so this finals truly may have been a glimpse into the future of women's tennis.

Noppawan Lertcheewakarn is the third highest ranked player from Thailand, currently ranked 406 in the world behind both Tamarine Tanasugarn and Suchanan Viratprasert. Lertcheewakarn has had little success thus far on the WTA Tour consistently losing early in 10K challengers. She did play the Wimbledon qualifiers where she lost to Vesna Manasieva. She may just be the second coming of Tamarine Tanasugarn, a player from Thailand who exceeds on grass.

Kristina Mladenovic has been a little more successful on the WTA tour, she is ranked 322, but only really started playing on the tour consistently in April.

Watch out for both these players in the future, and of course last years champion Laura Robson, who was eliminated in the third round.

The boy's final will be contested Sunday with Jordan Cox of the United States facing Andrey Kuznetsov of Russia.
