The name is a diminutive of an Arabic word meaning "fortress built near water."

Kuwaiti parliament dissolved

KUWAIT CITY, March 19 (UPI) -- The emir of Kuwait Wednesday dissolved the National Assembly and called for new elections. The action taken by Emir Sheik Sabah al-Ahmad al-Sabah followed this week's resignation of Prime Minister Sheik Nasser Mohammad al-Ahmad al-Sabah and the rest of the Cabinet, Kuwait Times reported. Naval equipment on display at Marina Crescent

After the military parade held on Wednesday, the Ministry of Defense, in cooperation with the Ministry of Interior, held a military marine parade and exhibition yesterday at the Marina Crescent in Salmiya. The event, held under the patronage of Sheikh Jaber Al-Mubarak Al-Sabah, the First Deputy Premier and the Minister of Defense, was open to the public from 4:30 pm to 10:00 pm.
