John Brooks' Header Gives Team USA A Big Win
Brooks' header from a corner kick in the 86th minute gave Team USA a 2-1 Victory
John Brooks will remember today's USA-Ghana World Cup match for the rest of his life. The American footballer scored on a corner kick in the 86th minute of play to beat Ghana, 2-1.
Team USA started the game with a quick goal by Clint Dempsey, but Ghana later responded to tie things up. Coach Jurgen Klinsmann explains that he never lost hope.
“I was still convinced we were going to win the game, even after the Ghana equalizer,” Klinsmann told the press. “I had a feeling two or three opportunities would come and we just have to use one of them. We have a great spirit. The U.S. always fights to the last minute. The players are determined to go into those balls. It’s a big moment for John Anthony Brooks, standing up his man.”
During the regular season, Brooks plays for Bundesliga club Hertha Berlin. He's a defender.
