Kyle Lohse won for the first time since injuring his forearm more than 2 1/2 months ago, working six effective innings in the St. Louis Cardinals' 4-1 victory over the Cincinnati Reds on Monday night. Colby Rasmus drew a bases-loaded walk in the fifth off Kip Wells (0-3) for the go-ahead run and Matt Holliday, Khalil Greene and Brendan Ryan hit balls off the wall in a two-run sixth. St. Louis Cardinals pitcher Kyle Lohse, who missed his last start after getting hit by a pitch in the right forearm, left Wednesday night's game against the Cincinnati Reds in the top of the third inning. Lohse was taken out with a 3-1 count against Jerry Hairston Jr. with a runner on and none out after meeting briefly with trainer Barry Weinberg and manager Tony La Russa for a second time. The Cardinals starting rotation is in complete disarray, and the club may have finally decided to "look further" into adding help from the outside. The list of pitchers on the mend but "progressing nicely" is getting longer by the day. Already Chris Carpenter, Mark Mulder, and Matt Clement won't be ready for the start of the season, and now it seems that Joel Pineiro might not be either. I am watching the Republican Debate right now (yes, I am a dork), and upon reading Roch's blog tonight, I saw this... "The Sun’s Jeff Zrebiec reported in today’s editions that the Orioles have held discussions with agent Scott Boras concerning pitcher Kyle Lohse. The club would like to add a veteran starter, but at last check, Lohse was seeking a four-year deal. I don’t see how there’s a match." Yesterday , I lobbied for the club to add starting pitcher Kyle Lohse, and several others agreed (see Bernie Miklasz , Viva El Birdos , and Rockin' the Red ). Today, the Cardinals agreed to a one-year deal with the free agent, pending tomorrow's physical. The contract is worth a guaranteed $4.25 million, with $100,000 in incentives for each of 160, 170, 180, and 200 innings. Joe Strauss has more on the story . This is good news for the Redbirds.
