LAKE MEREDITH -- The families of the men killed when a small plane crashed into Lake Meredith in 1984 were at the lake today. Rozanna Pfeiffer, a spokesman for the National Park Service, said they might go out to the crash site later today.

The plane that was found in Lake Meredith near Harbor Bay has been completely removed from the lake and is now resting at the Hutchinson County Airport awaiting an investigation. NPS personnel worked most of Wednesday to remove the plane, which had been missing since January of 1984.

Tuesday was the second day for removal crews out at Lake Meredith. This after a plane missing since 1984 was found there on Friday. Rangers say the Plane was three-quarters full of sand, making recovery difficult. Crews worked to removie the sand but didn't find anything in the plane.

Posted: Wednesday, June 04, 2008 at 9:27 a.m. After 24 years the plane that fell off the radar near Lake Meredith will soon be removed from its current resting place. Wednesday morning park officials plan to remove the Beech-77 aircraft from the shallow lakebed.
