Tour de France champion Alberto Contador was presented with the trophy for rider of the year by International Cycling Union (UCI) president Pat McQuaid.
The presentation took place in Madrid. Prize for the national cycling organisation of the year went to the Spanish National Cycling Federation (RFEC). Contador remains with Kazakh-funded Astana team for 2010 despite threatening to leave and opening negotiations with several other leading teams.

Italian cyclist Matteo Priamo was banned for four years Thursday for supplying doping products to a teammate. The Court of Arbitration for Sport ruled that Priamo last year provided the endurance-booster CERA to CSF Group Navigare teammate Emanuele Sella, who cooperated with authorities and served a one-year ban. The Livestrong Army has hit NYC this weekend for the New York Marathon . No word really, if Lance Armstrong will be running again this year, though. But judging by his late night party going last night (Friday, October 30) I’d say it’s not that likely.

MILAN (Reuters) - Lance Armstrong is expected to miss next May's Giro d'Italia after announcing he will race in the Tour of California. "I've decided to ride the Tour of California in 2010," the American told Twitter (http://twitter.com/lancearmstrong).
