After a little over 24 hours of using this Asus Eee PC 4G Surf, I have to say this little gadget is much more than just a fun must-have. Set-up was quick and easy. It connected instantly to our corporate network without any input by me. With our Windows-based units, it normally takes about 10-15 minutes to get everything up and running. At home, I had it connected to my home network in about 10 minutes, most of that time was spent getting my other computer configured.

I do have a few complaints though Asus Eee PC 4G Surf and they are minor. One, Asus Eee PC 4G Surf seems to be a little picky about how it connects to the wireless network. I had to shut it down and restart it several times before it would connect. After it connected once though, it had no problems. Two, the windows (tabs) at times are not visible completely - I maximized a window a couple of times and could not scroll to all of the edges and actually had to close out the window (tab). Setting up my mail was a chore because all of the options at the bottom were not visible, so I just had to hit enter on the keyboard and hope the right button was highlighted.

All-in-all this is a great product. Aside from the screen size, Asus Eee PC 4G Surf is every bit as functional as my work laptop. Open Office works great with only minor formatting issues. The keyboard is an acceptable size. I have the 4G Surf model, which at the time I ordered it Asus only listed one model on their website and that was the 4G model. I thought I was getting the webcam and the higher capacity battery. The 4G Surf model does not have those items, but I can purchase them separately. I successfully downloaded the beta version of Skype for Linux, which includes video conferencing capabilities. I have not tried it yet, but it looks like it should work. If you visit some websites, it will tell you that Skype for Linux will have that capability in 2008 - it is available now. I like this computer for what it is - a lightweight travel companion that I can take anywhere and use anywhere. For the price I paid, you cannot get a quality laptop that runs this fast and is this practical. The 900mhz processor and 512mb RAM runs faster than our 1.6ghz Windows-based desktops.

Update: After a little research I learned that you can hold down Alt and left-click anywhere on the window to move it around. Also, wireless works a lot better now - I have no problems connecting anywhere I go. The problems I had before must have been a fluke. The other day I wanted to find certain store, so I parked in front of a restaurant with Wi-Fi and connected to the internet to find where I wanted to go. What a great deal!

Asus Eee PC 4G Surf is the best, and well worth the price. My only complaint is that the black one was unavailable when I ordered and I had to get it in white. The Asus does internet, email, and word processing very well. The 4GB model ends up with about 1.3GB for storage after the operating system, but I’d prefer to invest in a large flash drive anyway, so that wasn’t a problem. Expect the keyboard to be a little small for touch typing. It took me a few days to be able to get all the punctuation keys properly while not hitting the touchpad with my palms, but the learning curve isn’t steep at all. Now this author can write anywhere! If you want something extremely portable (it fits in my purse!) then this is the system for you.

I got my Asus Eee PC 4G Surf Black, and it’s bad to the bone! I Love this machine. I don’t ever carry my laptop top around anymore. I upgraded the ram from the 512 to 1 gig and I put in a 2G memory card for kicks. This is a solid machine. Boots up fast, shuts down fast, connects wirelessly fast, and it surfs fast. The mouse pad is great and has a built in scroll bar. I like the Linx OS. The preloaded software is all i need to handle my business on the go. The only problem for me was connecting to my office remotely, due to the Linx OS and increased resources required by my remote software that the Eee pc does not have. All-in-All, This is a well built machine that can with-stand a few bumps. I left my Eee PC in the rain yesterday and it got good and wet. After i dried off the surface and keyboard, I turn it on and it still works good as new. This PC is an attention getter and will strike up a lot of conversations. Get one and I and sure that you will LOVE it!!!

Asus Eee PC 4G Surf is absolutely wonderful. Terrific graphic display is crystal clear. The only small challenge I had was setting it up to work on the Internet through my Bellsouth DSL. Be sure to select WAN, not WEP when doing so. The manual is good, but is written by typical computer nerds who do not think like the common man or woman. I highly recommend this PC to everyone. It is great!

I’ve had Asus Eee PC 4G Surf for several months now and my wife and I both love it. It’s fast and easy to use. You can serf the net or just about anything you would want to do. I highly recommend it if you are looking for portability.
