On Tuesday, November 3rd 2009, Ohio became the 38th state to allow casino gambling.  In celebration of that step toward progress, I invoke the age old wisdom of Mother Goose in the following.    This is the country that Jack built.   This is the road  That lay in the country that Jack built   This is the car  That goes down the road That lay in the country that Jack built   This is the engine That runs the car That goes...

CityCenter's glittering high rises have forever altered the Las Vegas skyline, but there is concern about the project's impact on already-discounted hotel room rates along the world's most famous gambling corridor. The nearly 6,000-room, $8.5 billion signature project for MGM Mirage (MGM.N) opens in December with rates up and down the Strip slashed during a recession that has forced consumers and businesses to cut spending and hold out for...

In its last earnings report before the company opens its $8.5 billion CityCenter complex next month, MGM Mirage on Thursday projected an improvement in business next year. It based that prediction on having more rooms booked for convention groups and the expectation that CityCenter will boost Strip tourism. Part of this optimism is based on a new sales strategy for filling its hotels. Until recently, each of the companys empire of iconic resorts along the Strip was operated like a self-contained kingdom, with a sales staff trained to sell the virtues of a single property over its neighbors. That policy continued when MGM Mirage ... Read Full Story

I think we will be revisiting Las Vegas this year. Last year for my hubbys birthday, we had a great time. We got a really great deal for our 3 day 2 night trip to Las Vegas. We stayed at the MGM Grand . It was like heaven. This was the first vacation I had ever taken without the kids. The MGM Grand was beautiful and the rooms were comfortable. I actually upgraded to a room with a jacuzzi tub which was a total waste of money. The room was beautiful and the tub was great but we were never in the room. I ... Read Full Story

Part of the struggle for Las Vegas casinos to overcome is eroding convention business. Companies have canceled meetings as they tighten spending and seek to avoid bad blood with shareholders or a bad image with others over meeting in the town known worldwide as Sin City. Conventions and business meetings typically fill midweek nights at large resorts, with weekends mostly booked by tourists, who tend to pay lower room rates. But resorts have cut prices severely midweek just to keep rooms filled. Casino operators MGM Mirage, Las Vegas Sands Corp. and Harrah's Entertainment have been reporting that meeting planners have brightened recently on Las ... Read Full Story

A Las Vegas vacation brings many different images to mind, from the hard-partying city of gamblers and cheap drinks to the place for a wholesome family getaway with the kids. The vacation industry of Sin City grew into its own after great efforts to reinvent itself as a playground for adults in the late 60s and early 70s. In those days, the city of Las Vegas was packed with a busy nightlife that included 24-hour bars, prominent stage performances and, of course, its infamous and ritzy casinos. In those days, visitors could start the night off with tickets to a great performance before spending ... Read Full Story
