Laurence Fishburne May Take Television Role On CSI

Good news for CSI lovers. Laurence Fishburne may be tapped to replace William Petersen in the starring role on the popular television show.

Fishburne is expected to portray a doctor and scientist who joins the CSI as an outsider, and not as the new boss, CBS Exec Nina Tassler told reporters at a recent press conference.

Fishburne's character would be a DNA expert. And in a twist, his own character's DNA shares a common profile to that of serial killers.

William Petersen will continue to be part of the series as an executive producer, as well as appearing in various guest appearances. Peterson is the third original cast member to leave the show, after Jorja Fox and Gary Dourdan.

In the meantime, Fishburne can be seen later this year in the big-screen drama "Days Of Wrath", about the lives of rival gang members, a teacher, a TV news crew, and others that intertwine in the city of Los Angeles.

Fishburne also has a role in the upcoming crime drama movie "Black Water Transit" with Brittany Snow, also due later this year. The movie will follow the divergent agendas of criminals, cops and lawyers as they collide over a shipment of illegal firearms and a double homicide.

The actor is currently working with Morgan Freeman and Bruce Willis on the war drama "Last Full Measure" about an ambitious government bureaucrat who is given an unwelcome assignment that could harm his carefully orchestrated career.

No word yet if last weeks car accident involving Morgan Freeman will impact the 2009 release date of "Measure", or when production will continue.
