Leighton Meester Wants 'Somebody to Love' Her New Single

Budding songstress Leighton Meester is looking to be a trend-setter on her new album -- much like her Queen B character on Gossip Girls who is always blazing the trail for the rest of her high school minions. Even though this is the real world, not that Upper East Side fantasy land, the actress-turned-singer still wants to be ahead of the curve with her music. Her new  single "Somebody to Love" dropped today via Ryan Seacrest's morning radio show.

She said about the breathy song, which also features a verse from Robin Thicke: "I really wanted to make something completely different than anything that's on the radio right now. I feel like it's really dancey and fun, but still laid-back, relaxed and moody and sexy."

That's quite the tall order, but the actress says the song hits a little close to home -- it's about being young and busy and the trials of the dating world -- so, we guess being 23 in Hollywood means she knows just a tad about all of those things.

Leighton also makes singing sound like the natural career move. She told Ryan she's been annoying her parents her whole life with it. Let's hope, for her sake, the rest of the world looks on it a little more fondly.
