Lemon Detox Diet - an Overview

The Lemon Detox Diet is known via numerous aliases, you may have heard it named The Master Cleanse, The Maple Syrup Diet, The Lemon Cleanse or The Cayenne Pepper Diet amongst others.
The fast is a full body cleanse that needs to be maintained for at least ten days to reach maximum results, though lots of detoxers find this unbelievably hard. It is a liquid based fast and you should not consume any food whilst you are on the detox.
The daily routine kicks off with a salt water flush to rinse out the toxins from your body. Then you take between six and twelve glasses of the lemon detox drink throughout the daytime. The detox is a concoction of freshly squeezed lemons, maple syrup, spring water and cayenne pepper. At the end of the day before going to bed, you are required to drink a natural herbal laxative tea.
The Lemon Detox was initially discovered by a man called Stanley Burroughs and at the time he was looking for a natural way to treat stomach ulcers. After using the maple syrup diet drink on several patients, there were many other benefits revealed and many more illnesses cured. After this Burroughs named it the Master Cleanser as he felt that it was the 'master' amongst fasts, with the highest amount of benefits.
The benefits of the lemon detox are many, from a stream in energy to speedy weight loss. The first three days can be a little tough but once you get through this period it all becomes a lot more bearable and you will even start to enjoy and embrace it.
Recently there have been celebrities like Beyonce drawing attention to the Lemon Detox, as she professes to have lost about one and a half stone whilst on the lemon cleanse in preparation for her role in Dream Girls. Whilst the maple syrup diet is a great way to move some fast lbs, it won't remain off beyond the cleanse, unless you follow a healthy diet packed with raw foods, nuts, seeds, fruits, vegetable and low fat nourishing foods.
On average a woman can lose up to 1lb a day on the master cleanse and a man can lose up to 2lb a day. This might not happen at all during the first couple of days and depending on how long you remain on the fast, you might also hit a plateau at some point too.
If you can maintain ten days on the Lemon Detox then your body will feel so much better. You can expect to have glowing skin, a ton of energy, glossy hair, a feeling of sheer happiness (that normally kicks in around day 8) and a much trimmer body.
Many folks continue on the master cleanse beyond ten days on a regular basis. Some will do twenty one days and others will do around forty and it's safe to do this if you do it the right way. One woman detoxed for 372 days but that really isn't advisable although she said she felt fantastic.
Pay attention to your body and if it's your first detox stick to the ten days. You can always do a detox every three to four months so you don't need to cram it all in one go.
And remember to check with your Doc before undergoing any kind of detox. The majority of Doctors will encourage you as the health benefits are well documented, but you should always make sure that you get the OK from the Doc first.
There are some people that shouldn't detox , so check it out before you begin.
