Leon Washington's Broken Leg Leads to Emergency Surgery

(Getty Images)more pics »Leon Washington's broken leg in Sunday's New York Jets game against the Oakland Raiders was something like you'd expect to see in a gruesome horror movie. He broke his right fibula on a 6-yard run in the first quarter, and it was so bad that teammates said they could see the bone sticking out through his skin, and blood gushed all over the field.

Damien Woody, Washington's teammate, said (via Nj.com): ‘‘As soon as I saw it, I knew it was over. (Washington’s) foot was in the ground and (defensive tackle) Tommy Kelly hit it. I saw blood squirting out. That’s emergency surgery right there."

Despite the injury, which could put Washington out for the rest of the season, and possibly end his career, the team went on to beat the Raiders 38-0.

Washington is earning $535,000 and took out an insurance policy against injury at the beginning of the season, luckily. Unfortunately for him, he's also in the last year of his contract and looking to sign a new deal.
