A community portal about Liberal Party of Canada with blogs, videos, and photos. According to Wikipedia.org: The Liberal Party of Canada, colloquially known as the Grits, is a Canadian federal political party positioned around the centre of the political spectrum, combining a progressive social policy with moderate economics. The party has been frequently dubbed "Canada's natural governing party", since it has been in power most of the time since the Great Depression, and starting with Wilfrid Laurier in 1896 every leader of the party has served as Prime Minister of Canada. The party has formed the Official Opposition in the Parliament of Canada since February 2006.

Bob Rae Gets Out Of Dodge City

What should come as no surprise to anyone, Bob Rae has called er’ quits.  I’m guessing the clincher was the severed horse head in his bed.

Michael Ignatieff has secured the federal Democrat, uh…Liberal leadership without a fight after his last remaining obstacle, Bob Rae, bowed out.

bobbyAfter all this hoopla, I’m guessing Bob isn’t going over to Michael’s place this Christmas.  Well…maybe just to pee in the punchbowl.

Rae informed his supporters of his decision during a conference call this morning and is to make it official at a news conference later today. His decision came just hours after the Liberal national executive rejected his plea to find an expedited way of giving all party members a vote for Stephane Dion’s replacement.  Voting seems to be somewhat of an afterthought among the left in Canada these days.

The latest trend of foregoing elections for the sake of letting the most popular man in is getting a bit unnerving.  I think all those who are accusing Harper of being a “dictator” should instead take a long, hard look in the mirror.

One thing is at least clear, the Liberals had best learn to shut their hypocritical mouths when it comes to anti-American rhetoric aimed towards the Conservatives.  You know…seeing as their new boss in a good ol’ boy from down south and all.

Hey, I’m sure Bob is a swell guy with very nice teeth.  But his policies are so bass ackwards that I don’t see how he could have been little more than dogmeat to the Conservatives during an election.  His big power was the unions, and union influence isn’t what it used to be.

You also have to feel for Stephane Dion a little bit.  A week ago he was within a hair or securing the title of “The Big Fromage”.  Now, he’s a pariah. That’s politics for you.

At least the philosophical question of ‘If Bob Rae makes a sound does anybody care?’ has at least finally been answered.  It seems the answer is no.
