Let’s face it hirsute Husbands , Barber shops are not what they used to be either. My wife’s gra nddad was a barber in a small town in South Dakota. The shop had a rotating Barber Pole outside, the obligatory room length mirror behind the chairs, wood paneling on the lower portion of the walls and a feeling like you were in a 1930s movie. Most of those places are gone forever. The Barber shop I go to is at least called a Barber shop, not a Salon. In truth it is a Hybrid of sorts because... Read Full Story

The Opinion Post was opined upon this week (at my request) by some young writers at Ask and Ye Shall Receive . Their critique was harsh; with such phrases as "crap grammar", political wonkiness (I had to look that up) and "He’s from Hickory so he must be an Asshole." I found this last statement most unfair since I've only been here 2 years; so any assholeness I possess comes from somewhere else. Some friends came by and commented; referring to my writing in one post as "brilliant and snarky... Read Full Story

It is rather ironic though, because in this last stage of youth and ‘fancy free’, I enter the real world…
For the past few weeks I have been scouring craigslist in search of short term rentals in DC, until I have established where exactly I will be working. Of course I have chosen the best time... Read Full Story
Overdosed America-Land of The Pill Pushing Pharmaceutical ADs October 8, 2008 Let me start off saying that the US is the only industrialized nation, in the world, that allows pharmaceutical companies to advertise on TV. Part of it is denial (Hell, I’m not old enough to have to worry about it I say to myself) and part of it is economic. (I’m unwilling to start expensive drug therapy or treatment without... I've already posted that I have the worst lawn in the whole neighborhood. It's sad, it's pathetic and it's also pretty large which is doubly troubling. This Saturday the temperature was 71 degrees and since I was unable to figure out any decent excuse, I got to work on the front yard. My goal is to put in more beds in along the walk using that black plastic edging.(I still had a roll left over from last summer) As you can see by the pictures I used a garden hose to lay out the curves. I... Read Full Story
The first in the "America A to Z" series I had convinced myself that it was not necessary to go in order through our alphabet for these posts. Then it hit me that there were indeed some things about our country that started with the first letter of the English alphabet that I might weigh in on. So forget Anger, Angst, animosity, and all the bad and negative "A" words and let’s concentrate on more positive ones Fishing in America, angling to the purist, is one of the more positive aspects of... The Village People have finally received a star, on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. The Village People are fondly remembered by many in the 70’s…For such songs as “Macho Man”, “Go West”, the classic club medley of “San Francisco (You’ve Got Me) / In Hollywood (Everybody is a Star)”, “In the Navy”, “Can’t Stop the Music”, “Sex Over the Phone” and their biggest hit, “Y.M.C.A.” I saw them at Disney World. They were a lot of fun. A great act. Much todo…when up when it was realized that the group was... Read Full Story
