i had a 21" CRT for 10 yrs. it was fine, just starting to flicker, but was old tech and weighed 50lbs. i looked for a year for a reasonable flat panel (hoping for a 22" under $200). never did find one with speakers that i liked. then volla! here comes an hp and not just under $200, but $50 less and with speakers. looks great! nice design and nice picture. hp designs, to me, are the pc version of mac. found this at my local ODepot for the same as amazon, without the wait of course. it truly... This is an excellent monitor, a good value for your money. Works with my Dell laptop, which no longer has a working LCD monitor. I like the design, and the fact that I can easily move my external keyboard out of the way under the monitor. The setup was a little tricky, primary because the VGA input in the back was a little hard to access, and awkward. I had a perfectly good working 17" Gateway Flatscreen which came with the system, but somehow I couldn't get the screen bright enough to be able to watch movies or play games that are shot in the dark (night or dark scenes)without getting my rear-end shot to shreds! I needed a monitor for my new HP desktop, and wanted a high definition 20" widescreen. I chose this one, mainly because of cost and brand. Initially I wasn't too impressed by the sharpness of the picture, or the general look of the colors, but after I set the monitor at the optimum resolution of 1600 x 900, and color calibrated it, things got better. I finally replaced my CRT monitor with this LCD wide-screen monitor. I was VERY pleased at how easy it was to set up. And I was pleasantly surprised to see how much more I could see on those many websites which are set up for a wide screen. I waited and waited to replace my old ball and chain monitor. Purchasing the hp 2009m has made the wait well worth it, and was very affordable. The speakers are on the quiet side, but I just use my own desktop speakers anyways. And every time the monitor starts up there is this annoying little box that tells you what your settings are, it doesn't stay up long, but it gets in the way of the windows start up password enter screen.
