9:03 a.m.: United Airlines Flight 175 is also hijacked and crashes into the south tower of the World Trade Center.
9:17 a.m.: The Federal Aviation Administration closes all New York City airports.
9:21 a.m.: The Port Authoritycloses all bridges and tunnels in New York City.
9:30 a.m.: President Bush announces that the country has experienced an "apparent terrorist attack."
9:40 a.m.: The FAA closes down all flights at U.S. airports.
9:43 a.m.: American Airlines Flight 77 crashes into the Pentagon.
9:45 a.m.: The White House is evacuated.
10:05 a.m.: The south tower of the World Trade Center collapses.
10:10 a.m.: Walls of the Pentagon collapse.
10:10 a.m.: United Airlines Flight 93 is hijacked and crashes in Somerset County, Pennsylvania.
10:13 a.m.: The United Nations building id evacuated.
10:24 a.m.: All transatlantic aircraft flying into the United States are diverted to Canada.
10:28 a.m.: The World Trade Center's north tower collapses.
10:45 a.m.: All federal office buildings in Washington are evacuated.
10:57 a.m.: New York Governor George Pataki closes all state government offices.
11:02 a.m.: New York City Mayor Rudolph Giuliani tells New Yorkers to stay in their homes.
12:04 p.m.: Los Angeles International Airport is evacuated.
12:15 p.m: San Francisco International Airport is evacuated.
12:15 p.m.: U.S. borders with Canada and Mexico are put on high alert.
1:04 p.m.: Bush asks for prayers for those hut by the attacks and announces, "Make no mistake, the United States will hunt down and punish those responsible for these cowardly acts."

2:49 p.m.: New York subway services are partially operational again.
4 p.m: CNN reports that Saudi militant Osama bin Laden is suspected of coordinating the attacks.
4:25 p.m.: The American Stock Exchange, the Nasdaq and the New York Stock Exchange announce that they will remain closed on the next day.
5:20 p.m.: Building 7 of the World Trade Center complex collapses.
6:40 p.m.: Rumsfeld, the U.S. Secretary of Defense annouces that the Pentagon is operational.
8:30 p.m.: President Bush gives a national adress; "These acts shattered steel, but they cannot dent the steel of American resolve."
