“The Gleaners and I”
“The Gleaners and I”, a film by Agnes Varda, was presented on Tuesday, July 8, 2008 at the main branch of The Denver Public Library. This screening was part of the free film program at the library.
We were lucky to have Howie Moshovitz, the film expert and critic, introduce the film and lead the discussion after the movie.
“The Gleaners and I” chronicles various types of gleaning in France. Some glean crops after the harvest (legal in France) because they would not be able to feed themselves any other way. Others glean crops because they believe it is the ethical thing to do (rather than leaving edible foods to rot). Some folks dumpster dive. Others glean discarded items and repair and/or recycle their components and materials.
Highly recommended by your reviewer.
Available on DVD at The Denver Public Library.
