The county owned boat ramp at the corner of Bowline Drive and Barrancas has re-opened, complete with new docks and refurbished ship's store, parking lot and rest rooms.  This boat ramp has great access to Charlotte Harbor and the Gulf of Mexico.  Fees are $5 to park, $5 to launch.  Other places to launch a boat on Pine Island include:  Maria Drive Marina (weekends/holidays only), Matlacha Park, Pineland Marina and St. James Marina.  Places to launch a kayak or canoe include Waterfront Park in Pineland, Tropical Point Park in St. James City, Matlacha Park and Coastal Connection Marina in Bokeelia.  Pine Island is one ... Spring is here on Pine Island, with temperatures back in the breezy 70's.  I rode my bike up to Jug Creek marina this morning.  I noticed the flock of white pelicans that had wintered in the back bay of Bokeelia this winter is gone.  Their arrival in November announces winter, and departure in March means it is Spring!
