Luis Castillo Feels No Pain in Spring Debut

...From the NY Times:

Luis Castillo became the last
Mets regular to make his Grapefruit League debut. Then he spoke optimistically about playing enough in the team’s final 13 spring games to be ready for the regular season.
“I need to play,” Castillo said Saturday. “I’m going to play the most games I can.”

Castillo’s debut had been delayed to allow more time for his knees to heal; he had surgery on his right knee in the off-season. He said he felt no pain after playing more than five innings at second base in the Mets’ 10-3 loss to the St. Louis Cardinals at Tradition Field.

He said he was hoping the first ball of the game would be hit to him, and it was. He threw out the runner. Then, in his first at-bat, he hit a hard one-bouncer off pitcher Adam Wainwright’s right leg. Third baseman Troy Glaus threw him out in a close play.

Castillo walked in his final two plate appearances, sorting through 12 pitches. He said he now hoped to build on this start in games Sunday and Monday before the Mets take a day off.

“I feel so good,” he said. “I feel happy for myself because I feel so different. For a long time I don’t feel like that.”
