A community portal about Machinima with blogs, videos, and photos. According to Wikipedia.org: Machinima, a portmanteau of machine cinema or machine animation, is both a collection of associated production techniques and a film genre defined by those techniques. As a production technique, the term concerns the rendering of computer-generated imagery using real-time, interactive 3D engines, as opposed to high-end and complex 3D animation software used by professionals. Engines from first person shooter and role-playing simulation video games are typically used. Consequently, the rendering can be done in real-time using PCs, rather than with complex 3D engines using huge render farms. As a film genre, the term refers to movies created by the techniques described above.
A real shocker, I know, right? Moviestorm’s new Subscription Plan has brought forth a lot of opinions – I believe someone even described it as a “furor,” though being on holiday I remained blissfully ignorant of that. Opinions are mixed on the subject, and forming a confident opinion can be a bit of a challenge as speculation has given rise to some misunderstanding and even misinformation. Even my thoughts didn’t solidify instantly on this, and I’m a self-proclaimed Moviestorm lover.

What a tremendous event yesterday, I am happy to report that the Machinima Expo 2009 is getting very positive feedback from those who attended. Those of us who organized it are very pleased with how things went. In spite of a technical glitch right at the beginning of the day regarding capacity – the location had its attendance limit set way too low – it was all in all a much smoother event than last year’s.
And next year, we’ll strive to be even better.
Thank you so much to everyone... Read Full Story
This documentary film of the Bitfilm Festival 2009 has a nice overview of works and people who were involved in the event. I was pleased to learn that my own entry, Intervention , made the cut! In fact, they used my music from that film underneath the entire section about Machinima. Sweet! Read Full Story
What’s the best way to bounce back emotionally after a day like yesterday ?
If I were a character in Zoolander , I’d go shopping. Being neither a male model nor a lover of retail establishments, I’ve two more apt suggestions:
Never underestimate your friends and the machinima community as a whole. The outpouring of support (as well as enthusiasm over the prospect of a virtual event more of you can attend) has been phenomenal. Never believe anyone who tries to tell you there is no... Read Full Story
First Group of Films to Screen at the Expo Announced – The Expo blog has a new look , if you haven’t seen it.
Mike Jones: “The ‘Film Look’ is a Crock…” – I thought from the title that I was at last going to come upon a Mike Jones post that I vehemently disagreed with, but it was not to be. Like Kate , I puzzle over what got him worked up on this subject, though.
Machiniplex3: Audio & Text from Machiniplex Premiere of “9″ – Very interesting Q&A with a true machinima innovator... Read Full Story
Cambridge Film Festival 2009: Machinima – Programming with Light – It’s happening on the 25th of this month. Did I miss a Call For Entries? I don’t recall reading anything about this.
uFail – iPhone app made with Moviestorm – My buddy Sam Midwood has been putting Moviestorm to really creative use, and he might even make a few bucks in the process! I did some sound design and music work for this project. My favorite is this one , where I did a gameshow music theme. So cheesy.

Last Saturday, Male Restroom Etiquette turned two years old. Given that anniversary, and the fast approaching Machinima Film Festival 2008 , the timing of a recent package I received seemed appropriate. Lars Fuchs of AMAS interviewed Phil (me) on December 18, 2006 - right around a month after the 2006 Machinima Film Festival ; the project that the interview was part of ended up getting shelved, and it never saw the... November 9th gave Phil and Ricky their first opportunity to conduct an overcast episode in front of a live virtual audience at The International Machinima Expo 2008. Having just come off their trip to New York, the “amateur” topic from #043 was fresh on their minds, so they decided to put it before the sizable crowd and see what they thought of it.
What followed was a very interesting discussion, some of which is... Read Full Story
