A community portal about Machinima with blogs, videos, and photos. According to Wikipedia.org: Machinima, a portmanteau of machine cinema or machine animation, is both a collection of associated production techniques and a film genre defined by those techniques. As a production technique, the term concerns the rendering of computer-generated imagery using real-time, interactive 3D engines, as opposed to high-end and complex 3D animation software used by professionals. Engines from first person shooter and role-playing simulation video games are typically used. Consequently, the rendering can be done in real-time using PCs, rather than with complex 3D engines using huge render farms. As a film genre, the term refers to movies created by the techniques described above.

Another genre that’s becoming popular in the TMO community is the crime/ film noir genre. This genre obviously focuses on crime and often features a black and white look to the film. One TMO crime/film noir that immediately comes to my mind is the Into The Shadow trilogy. Well, Sparky1512, the creator behind A Very British Sketch Show, Sins, and Death and Life, decided to throw his hat in the ring with the release of his crime/ film noir, One Last Breath. The movie was so huge and long, that Sparky1512 had to upload two separate parts of the movie to the TMO community. So what do I think of it? The movie is another excellent work from Sparky1512, and could be one of the best crime/film noirs released this year.
The movie has all of the usually elements of a classic crime/film noir: dames in need of some help, corruption, and a protagonist stuck in the middle. Jack Stringer is down on his luck: he just been kicked off the police department for something he didn’t do, his wife left him, and his alcohol problems keeps getting worse and worse. Things can’t get more worse in his life. However, a mysterious lady promises him that if he works for her, then he can get even with the people who framed him. But, as the story progresses, can he really trust anyone? The story was well written, and featured perfect timing. I love the engrossing story featuring a strong focus on corruption and betrayals. Also, I liked how Sparky1512 edited all of the action scenes in the movie to make it seem like action scenes you see in the movies. Truly top notch stuff!
The movie did featured mods, most notably is the “black and white overlay”, which gave the movie that overall crime/film noir feel. Also, there were a few custom sets in the movie. Out of all the features in the movie, the shining star in the movie was the audio. I thought the VO’s in the movie were amazing, and reminded me of all of those classic detective shows from the 60s. I especially enjoyed Jack Stringer’s VO, since he reminded me of Marty from Sin City. The movie also featured an amazing soundtrack that features a huge selection of Jazz. Out of all the movies I reviewed on TMO, I never saw a movie that featured such a fantastic soundtrack. Also, I never thought I would use the word “soundtrack” to describe the music in a movie! Finally, the free-cam gave the movie the perfect time in crucial moments, like the last gunfight at the end of the movie.
I have absolutely no complaints for the movie. Overall, if you love crime/fim noirs and willing to waste thirty six minutes watching a movie, then this is the perfect movie to watch. That’s why I’m giving the movie a five out of 5, and Pariah’s Hott Stuff Award. Congrats to the cast and crew of One Last Breath.
