Maddison Gabriel sparks a child exploitation debate in Australia
A number of social activists feel that the decision by Australia's Fashion Week committee to select 13 year old model Maddison Gabriel as the head of Australia's Fashion Week event is a form of child exploitation.
''Paedophiles would absolutely love to see a beautiful 12-year-old girl dressed up as a woman in something really raunchy and sexy. It'd make their day,'' said Hetty Johnston, Campaigner against child abuse.
There is been a lot of debate on both side. Some say that choosing a young model promotes child exploitation, others feel that as long as Maddison isn't forced to wear super skimpy fashions, there is no reason to exclude younger models from the competition.
Regardless, Fashion Week has gotten a LOT of press over their young star.
“For a 12-year-old I think she's handling it very well. I'm very proud of her,” said Maddison's mom.
