Women who made breasts glam

The mention of the word breast no longer excites a violent blush or an embarrassed titter.
And that’s some mean feat. So patronesses of low-cut blouses, cleavage-enhancing tops and curve-hugging dresses should be very grateful to this group of bootilicious women who have helped blunt stigmas associated with a woman’s breast so that she can revel in her sexuality.

Here’s to the women who made breasts glam:
The sex siren
Zeenat Aman, the original Indian sex siren, had no qualms in flaunting her curves in an age when women did not dare to bare. The sex kitten of the 70s was seen more often in cleavage-enhancing clothes in movies like Satyam Shivam Sundaram and Kurbaani than in chaste saris and bindis. But her overt sexiness and convention-defying roles did not stop her from becoming one of the most popular actors of her time. In fact, it helped.
Poster girl

A poster girl for the cause, Pamela Anderson and her double D cups (check) marched onto Indian television in a low-cut fire engine red swimsuit, via Baywatch.
The Baywatch babe made no secret of being proud of her surgically-enhanced assets, either while running in slo-mo on a Californian beach or in a tight leather bustier while fighting the bad guys on Barb Wire.
And she then very skilfully used the fame generated by her considerable breasts to promote her pet cause – Peta’s ‘Say No To Fur’ campaign. You go, girl!
Totally bindass
No glam list of any kind (especially this kind) is complete without Mallika Sherawat. We remember her in nothing but bed-sheets in Mahesh Bhatt’s Murder, as a belly dancer in Guru and an atrocious curve-highlighting cut-out skin-cloloured dress at the premiere of Jackie Chan’s Myth. But we’ve gotta admit, we wish we could do ‘va va voom’ with as much elan as this bindass actress.

 


The dhak-dhak girl

Madhuri Dixit may have gone into semi-retirement in the US now. But we will always remember her for her unabashed chest thrusts in Bollywood cult classics like Choli Ke Peeche, Ek, Do, Teen and of course Dhak Dhak, the very song that thrust her (no pun intended) into the limelight. A decade later, we’re still watching B-town actresses mimic her moves (without blushing or complaining) to seduce their heroes.
Sex goddess
When Beyonce sashayed onto the Billboard charts with her hit album Dangerously in Love in 2003, she also brought along her own brand of voluptuous sexiness. She’s showed ‘em off in a gorgeous ivory Elie Saab gown at the Golden Globes this January; in a raunchy puffball jacket at the American Music Awards last November and in a deep-cut fire-engine red mini at the MTV Video Music Awards in September.
Got it, so flaunt it!
It’s hard to imagine Bipasha Basu in anything that doesn’t show off her "assets". And with her roles in Jism and Dhoom 2, her item number in Omkara, and even her covershot for Vogue India’s May 2008 issue (she bedazzled us in a soft ice blue Giambattista Valli number) the Bengali actress has proved that since you’ve got it, you might as well flaunt it!
Is it any wonder then, that she was picked Asia’s sexiest woman for 2007?
