Magellanic Penguins

Charleston, S.C. - January 13, 2009 - The South Carolina Aquarium confirmed today that Magellanic penguins will be arriving soon to inhabit the new temporary exhibit, Penguin Planet. The animals will be on loan from SeaWorld. Penguin Planet SC Aqurium courtesy of SeaWorld Opening March 2009, Penguin Planet will host a Magellanic penguin habitat and 550 square feet of exhibit space. Baby Penguins March To New Home At San Francisco Zoo's Penguin Island (PHOTOS, VIDEO) Four Magellanic penguin chicks marched to their new residence at the San Francisco Zoo's Penguin Island. The March of the Penguins event occurs annually after the penguin chicks have learned to swim and fish during the first few months of their lives. After their training at the Zoo's Fish School, the one male and three female chicks joined the fifty-four other penguins who live at the San Francisco Zoo's penguin colony called Penguin Island. SAN FRANCISCO (KGO/CNN) - Wednesday was a big day for some little penguins as they waddled from their "school" at the San Francisco Zoo to join the "big kids" at the 54-member penguin colony. They needed a bit of guidance, as you can see, but zoo keepers were there to help them on their journey. The penguins were born earlier this year, and spent months learning to swim and feed, so they can join the other penguins in the permanent exhibit. SAN FRANCISCO, July 12 (UPI) -- Linda the penguin has split up two male penguins who lived as a nesting couple for six years at the San Francisco Zoo, caretakers said. Male penguins Harry and Pepper had been so content together they were allowed to incubate and hatch an egg laid by another Magellanic penguin last year, zookeeper Anthony Brown said.
