While there have been many movie adaptations of video games like Tomb Raider, Assassin's Creed, Resident Evil, and even Super Mario Brothers, there's many ways video games have influenced motion pictures. From ideas inspired by video games to movies about gamers themselves to cinematography that looks like a first-person shooter, arcade and video games have left an indelible mark on movies.

Video games have been a big part of growing up in the United States for generations now, starting in the '70s. Some kids spend more time with their games than they do their families, so it only makes sense that filmmakers who grew up playing would be influenced by that time.

Here's a look at the films that have the biggest video game influences. They aren't based on games, as we mentioned, but they use video games and concepts to tell their stories.
