What? You never heard of this kind of handmade soap? It's amazing! Made from real Japanese Plum wine, it has the sweet, heady fragrance of the sweet dessert wine, plus an added berry wine fragrance to make it a "dessert soap". Each bar is hand-cut, approximately 3 oz each. Talk about lather! This soap has lather that doesn't quit; and leaves the lingering scent of the soap behind. The perfect holiday gift! This was the first time that I used the plum wine for soap-making and it turned out wonderful! The texture is hard, smooth and I'm amazed at the lather it produces! Must ... Read Full Story

A few weeks a go I was on a soap making binge! I made about eight different batches of soap in less than a week and still had ideas cooking in my head. Problem was, I ran out of ingredients! Most of the time I can make a substitution or two and not sacrifice soap quality, but this time it was different. I ran out of sodium hydroxide (Lye), which is the ingredient that makes soap what it is...SOAP! Without it, there is no chemical reaction of the oils mixed with it that hardens it into a viable bar of soap and has great ... Read Full Story

Philosophy’s makeup claims to meet skincare and actually be good for you. The problem is that Philosophy’s skincare products aren’t terribly good for you – for example, Philosophy’s Purity is about as pure as New York snow…or Spitzer’s marriage…or Oprah’s diet. This doesn’t bode well for its latest ‘hybrid’, the Supernatural, Superbeautiful Superhealthy foundation with SPF. The magazine ads that accompany the launch of Supernational, Superbeautiful claim that this liquid foundation is “full of minerals, vitamins, antioxidants and naturally sourced spf”. This simply isn’t true. Because I can’t quite believe that Philosophy would actually lie, I can only assume that a dastardly competitor stole ... Read Full Story

Posted by Copley Chris Rock has been making the rounds to promote his new documentary “Good Hair,” about the seriously complicated, somewhat crazy hair care customs of the African-American community. His film delves into the $9-billion industry that has evolved around this culture’s attainment of the “European” look, since the natural nappy look just isn’t cutting it. According to some reviews, the most entertaining aspect of “Good Hair” is its investigation of the history and practice of hair relaxers, which commonly use sodium hydroxide . After wowing us with its power to coax tight, kinky hair into long, luxuriant tresses, the film shows sodium ... Read Full Story
