Mallu Masala movies are Masala-style movies made in the Indian state of Kerala in the Malayalam language. Mallu is an Indian slang term for a person of Malayalam descent. The Cinema of Kerala (or Malayalam Cinema) is characterized by films that deal with familial and social issues. The films are often thought to be more high-brow than Bollywood movies. Masala-style movies are films that mix several genres together much like the popular Indian blend of spices known as Masala.
