Philadelphia Phillies general manager Ruben Amaro, Jr. didn't go out and get Cuban star Yoenis Cespedes to play in his outfield next season. What type of flexibility would that have added to his team if he had made that deal? It's difficult to say if space ...

IT MIGHT sound hokey, but the makeup of the Phillies' bench heading into the 2012 season really will depend on who's on first. Manager Charlie Manuel has no shortage of options to fill in for injured slugger Ryan Howard, who is expected to miss at least the first 2 months of the season. From there, the dominoes will fall. The likely scenario heading into spring training has John Mayberry Jr. starting in leftfield and veteran Ty Wigginton...

It was called Philadelphia Regional In-Home Sports & Movies, and it was ahead of its time. The Phillies started televising their games on Prism in 1977, long before regional cable sports networks funded massive spending sprees in baseball - as in this postseason.

Phils Sign Gooch, The Other One

By GM- Carson on  From pabaseball.blogspot.com
So Taguchi, one year, $1 million-ish. This essentially finishes the bench for the Phightins: Werth, Taguchi, Coste, Bruntlett, Helms/Dobbs. I'm not excited by this signing, but I'm not against it either. It gives the Phils a veteran (37 years old) guy that can play all three outfield spots who has proven that he can consistently hit major league pitching at above-Nunez rates. He provides versatile outfield depth that every contending team needs. The alternative for the 5th bench spot is young...Read Full Story

Manuel Knows Calendars

By GM- Carson on  From pabaseball.blogspot.com
From an article posted by Phils new beat writer David Murphy: Kris Benson thinks he's ready to face big league hitters. Charlie Manuel and Rich Dubee aren't sure yet. One thing both sides would agree on: If Benson continues to improve at his current rate, he could be ready to join the rotation before the start of June. "I don't know about May," Manuel said. "I definitely think it can happen before June." So Manuel is unsure if he'll be ready by May, but he'll definitely thinks it will be...Read Full Story

No Light Bulbs Allowed

By GM- Carson on  From pabaseball.blogspot.com
*For the second time this spring I am in agreement with Charlie Manuel. Either he read some self help books or being a father has softened me. Either way, Manuel is starting off on the right foot with me this season as he posted a sign in the clubhouse reading- It's not like a light bulb, you don't turn it on and off . For someone known throughout the game as a "players' manager" he's sending a clear message that they need to start playing better baseball regardless if the games really...Read Full Story

Phillies 2008 Promotions - Part 1

By GM- Carson on  From pabaseball.blogspot.com
The Phillies recently released their scheduled promotions and give-a-ways for the 2008 season. The typical Dollar Dog Day, fireworks, magnet scheduleds, etc. are on the calendar, but the Phils spiced it up a little this year with some marketing marvels that should be very popular. Here are a few of WSBGMs favorites. Charlie Manuel Double-Switch Doll - Inspired by the Transformers action figures, this doll can morph from manager Charlie Manuel into a replica of the Phanatic's ATV. However...Read Full Story
