Dear Charlie Manuel, Even the most heartfelt of letters cannot truly express the pride I feel due to your workmanship and that of your clubhouse. For the second consecutive year, I get to spend anywhere between four and seven nights praying, crying and irresponsibly exercising my vocal chords in hopes of another parade down Broad Street.

Rich Hofman has an article in today's Philadelphia Daily News saying that the Phillies should acquire Roy Halladay . Hofman also points out the obvious that the Yankees won the World Series because they had the better pitching, which is nothing but the truth. He also says that retooling the bullpen, and adding to the bench are other priorities. Tom's Take: I can't say that I disagree because the Phils could use another reliable starter since...

PHILADELPHIA — Put those parade plans on hold, New York. The Phillies are coming back. Desperate to hang onto their World Series title and hounded by the Yankees to the very last swing, Philadelphia somehow held on for an 8-6 win last night in Game 5.

Murray Chass...a regular Margregret Mitchell. Amaro was speaking about the Phillies’ minor league system. He had traded four of the organization’s top prospects for Lee last July, and now he had traded three more top prospects for Halladay. “It would have left us short in the amount of talent at the upper levels of the minor leagues,” Amaro said by telephone from Philadelphia. “We had already moved four good prospects in the Lee trade...

The Phillies have agreed to terms on a three-year, $18 million contract with infielder Placido Polanco, a major-league source said Thursday. Polanco will return to Philadelphia, where he played from 2002 through 2005, to replace Pedro Feliz as the starting third baseman. The agreement comes one day after the division rival Braves signed Billy Wagner to be their closer, as both teams appear to be fortifying their rosters for what could be an...

David Murphy of the Philadelphia Daily News is speculating  (http://www.philly.com/dailynews/sports/20091112_Phillies_like_the_third-base_market.html) that Phillies GM Rueban Amaro Jr. has talked to the Pirates about a trade for Andy LaRoche.  I would be curious to see what Amaro would be willing to offer, but, to me, it does not appear to be a good time to trade Luigi. Neil Walker is not, and will probably never be, ready to start at the...

Larry Bowa, the former Philadelphia manager, former Yankees third base coach and current Dodgers third base coach, suggested the Bombers are trying to combat the Phillies' propensity for stealing signs. And the Phillies didn't like the accusation.

So Taguchi, one year, $1 million-ish. This essentially finishes the bench for the Phightins: Werth, Taguchi, Coste, Bruntlett, Helms/Dobbs. I'm not excited by this signing, but I'm not against it either. It gives the Phils a veteran (37 years old) guy that can play all three outfield spots who has proven that he can consistently hit major league pitching at above-Nunez rates. He provides versatile outfield depth that every contending team needs. The alternative for the 5th bench spot is young outfielder Chris Snelling, who has been injured very frequently in his short career. He's a promising youngster that could be a real asset ... photo credit: Matt McGee There is a long standing tradition that you never mention a no hitter in the dugout when a pitcher is pitching one. The reasoning is that the pitcher will be “jinxed,” and the added pressure will cause them to lose the no hitter. There is probably something to that and the same goes for when a hitter gets into a good hitting groove. Most of the time, good hitting streaks come when a hitter stops thinking at the plate, just watches the ball and “let’s the bat fly.” Of course and of utmost importance, good fundamentals are necessary to even ... *For the second time this spring I am in agreement with Charlie Manuel. Either he read some self help books or being a father has softened me. Either way, Manuel is starting off on the right foot with me this season as he posted a sign in the clubhouse reading- It's not like a light bulb, you don't turn it on and off . For someone known throughout the game as a "players' manager" he's sending a clear message that they need to start playing better baseball regardless if the games really "matter" or not. I wholeheartedly agree with this, they need to fine ... Read Full Story
