Move over '51 Brooklyn Dodgers, '64 Philadelphia Phillies, and '78 Boston Red Sox. You have a new member in your club. In the world of pro sports, the 2007 New York Mets baseball team has joined the aforementioned Dodgers, Phillies, and Red Sox as members of the "couldn't get it done" club. Perhaps the individual in the picture above wearing the paper bag over his head represents the type of embarrassment that all Mets fans feel one day after the regular season has come to a very bitter end! Well, after weeks of much speculation and ominous headlines in both the New York and National press, the fans of the New York Mets are probably happy with the news this morning -- made most likely before most even woke up on the East Coast. At 3:15 a.m. ET -- that manager Willie Randolph had been fired along with Pitching coach Rick Peterson and first base coach Tom Nieto were also let go. Meanwhile, Jerry Manuel takes over -- for now. Minaya, who had flown to California during the game, delivered the news to Randolph, Peterson and Nieto when ... Read Full Story

There's something weird about it." Yeah, so apparently blaming race for justified criticism doesn't go over to well these days. So Randolph clarified his statement. "...I was just expressing how I felt at the time, but it ... Read Full Story

In 2008, you'll recall, the Mets let Willie Randolph dangle on the precipice of removal, take a flight to the West Coast, manage one game in Anaheim and then fired him (announcing it, infamously, after 3:00 AM Eastern time). It all seemed pretty shabby. Not quite eighteen months later, the New Jersey Nets, off to a potentially historic bad start, have fired their head coach, Lawrence Frank, with one game remaining on a punishing West Coast...
