It's official. Pending the inevitable physical, Adrian Beltre will be the new Boston Red Sox third baseman for 2010...and maybe 2011. He signed a one year free agent deal for $9 million with a $5 million player option for 2011. He will improve the Red Sox infield immensely with his hot corner defense and, with Youkilis at first and Pedroia at second, will be the third Gold Glover in Boston's superb infield. Adrian Beltre signed with the Red Sox yesterday on a one-year contract. This deal was somewhat surprising given how focused Beltre and agent Scott Boras were on getting Beltre a multi year deal. So the Bay era is over in Boston. Probably a lot sooner than many Red Sox fans, myself included, had hoped. Jason Bay, while no Manny Ramirez with the bat, provided the Red Sox with a very solid power stroke in a very walk-happy lineup (second in the AL with 659), hitting 36 home runs, and providing a very nice line of .267/.384/.537. Well, it has become obvious that Brooklyn Belly has become a Mets fan. This morning she found Plottie's Manny Ramirez bobblehead.First she broke his arm.Then she stole his bat.And lastly -- Duck found poor, injured Manny and applied the coup de grace.But actually, the more Plotnik looks at the New Manny, the more he likes him.
