It's official. Pending the inevitable physical, Adrian Beltre will be the new Boston Red Sox third baseman for 2010...and maybe 2011. He signed a one year free agent deal for $9 million with a $5 million player option for 2011. He will improve the Red Sox infield immensely with his hot corner defense and, with Youkilis at first and Pedroia at second, will be the third Gold Glover in Boston's superb infield. Shortstop Scutaro is no slouch...

Adrian Beltre signed with the Red Sox yesterday on a one-year contract.
This deal was somewhat surprising given how focused Beltre and agent Scott Boras were on getting Beltre a multi year deal. Take it away, John Tomase:
"The Red Sox have always liked Adrian Beltre. For much of free agency, they just didn’t like his price.
"But that changed when Beltre decided one year in Boston was worth more in the long run than three or four somewhere...

So the Bay era is over in Boston. Probably a lot sooner than many Red Sox fans, myself included, had hoped.
Jason Bay, while no Manny Ramirez with the bat, provided the Red Sox with a very solid power stroke in a very walk-happy lineup (second in the AL with 659), hitting 36 home runs, and providing a very nice line of .267/.384/.537. It will be interesting to see how Bay's style plays at Citi Field, as it is a very young ballpark, and while...

In a move clearly designed to use up old inventory from the Red Sox Souvenir Shop, the Boston Red Sox have reportedly acquired minor league catcher Max Ramirez from the Texas Rangers in exchange for gold-glove third baseman Mike Lowell.
Said GM Theo Epstein, "When we were forced to trade Manny Ramirez two seasons ago it left us with a surplus of Ramirez jerseys at our souvenir store. As a small market team, we simply can't afford to be...

LOWELL (AP) — The White House party crashers have another dinner to attend — and this time they're actually invited.
The Lowell Spinners, a minor league affiliate of the Boston Red Sox, invited Michaele and Tareq Salahi to the team's annual Alumni Dinner this month. The guest list for the Dec. 29 awards dinner also includes a more traditional baseball roster featuring Red Sox infielder Kevin Youkilis and former Boston catcher Rich Gedman.

Ex-Boston Red Sox left fielder Jason Bay has agreed to a four year, $66 million deal with the New York Mets. The contract also has a vesting option for a fifth year that could boost the value of the contract to $80 million. That was probably the difference maker between the Mets' negotiations and those of the Red Sox. Speaking of Boston, here's Youk... “It’s definitely going to be tough for all of us,’’ Kevin Youkilis said. “Jason was a close...

Am I the only one tired of waiting for Jimmy Yawn to step up?
1) Jesus Montero, C, Grade A: I know that his position is up in the air, but I love this bat so much that I’m going to give him a straight Grade A. This is a Mike Piazza/Manny Ramirez type bat.
2) Austin Romine, C, Grade B: Not in Montero’s class as a hitter, but he’s not bad, should improve further, and is much better defensively.
3) Manny Banuelos, LHP, Grade B-: Borderline...

Well, it has become obvious that Brooklyn Belly has become a Mets fan. This morning she found Plottie's Manny Ramirez bobblehead.First she broke his arm. Then she stole his bat.And lastly -- Duck found poor, injured Manny and applied the coup de grace. But actually, the more Plotnik looks at the New Manny, the more he likes him. There is something fitting about those springs coming out of his neck, something comforting.

Coming off a World Series win and a Series MVP in 2007, Mike Lowell took a hometown discount the stay in Boston.
He may be regretting that decision now.
FOXSports.com is reporting that the Rangers and Red Sox have reached a preliminary agreement on a trade that will send Lowell to Texas for catcher/first baseman Max Ramirez.
Who would have guessed that, after all the previous talk of the Red Sox obtaining a Rangers' catcher, Ramirez would be...
