By Melissa Segura, SI.com - He tried -- really tried -- to get it right, to be the good guy. It seemed like such a good idea when Manuel Corpas scooped up all the dirty clothes from the floor of the Panama City hotel room he was sharing with his girlfriend, stuffed one bag with his clothes, another with hers, and took a cab to a nearby laundromat. The couple had been staying at a hotel near his childhood home partly because the renovations he'd paid for left little room for them and partly because, for the first time, he could afford a nice ... Huston Street is taking over the closer role for the Colorado Rockies. Street, a right-hander acquired as part of a November trade with the Oakland Athletics involving for Matt Holliday, was named Colorado's closer before the Rockies' 7-4 victory over the Arizona Diamondbacks on Thursday. Street, who lost his closing role to Brad Ziegler with the A's last season, has beaten out Manuel Corpas despite early spring struggles. Colorado's Troy Tulowitzki was 3-for-3 with two runs scored and a double. Garrett Atkins went 2-for-4 with a double. Arizona's John Hester was 2-for-2 while Mark Reynolds had a double and Justin Upton had a two-run ... Read Full Story

International Herald Tribune - TUCSON, Ariz.: Manny Corpas considers himself a quiet person who'd rather blend in than stand out. That's been difficult for him to do after his breakout season as the Colorado Rockies' closer. Corpas couldn't even venture out over the offseason without being mobbed by fans seeking autographs. He has become as popular around his hometown of Panama City, Panama, as Mariano Rivera. Not that he's ready to lump himself into the same category as the dominant Yankees closer, who's had at least 28 saves in each of the last 11 seasons. "Mariano is Mariano," Corpas said through interpreter Joe Diaz, ... Read Full Story

Manuel Corpas is making a strong case to be the Colorado Rockies closer. The right-hander pitched another scoreless inning this spring, but the Rockies lost in 10 innings to the San Francisco Giants 7-3 Friday. Corpas opened the sixth by getting a harmless grounder to first before allowing a single to Pablo Sandoval. A double play quickly finished the inning. Corpas won the closer job at the end of camp a year ago but was replaced by Brian Fuentes, who signed in the offseason with the Angels. He has given up only two hits in four innings, while striking out two and walking none. ... Read Full Story

I agree with Hawaiian H about Betancourt being this year's biggest acquisition. Love the way that guy pounds the strike zone. But for one bad pitch to Edgar Renteria, he's been absolutely lights out since he arrived here.I believe it will cost the Rockies about $5 million to pick up Betancourt's option for next year. That is a check they need to write, because Morales is gifted but still very raw, and we don't know for sure when Corpas will be...

What do we have today... Evan Grant takes a closer look at the Rockies' performance with Clint Hurdle as their hitting coach over at the DMN blog, with some interesting data on, among other things, how Ks and walks changed once Hurdle took over the job. In not-really-Rangers-news, but interesting anyway, Tony Massarotti says the BoSox were in on J.J. Hardy before he was dealt to the Brewers, with the Brewers asking for Clay Buchholz or Daniel...
