By Melissa Segura, SI.com - He tried -- really tried -- to get it right, to be the good guy. It seemed like such a good idea when Manuel Corpas scooped up all the dirty clothes from the floor of the Panama City hotel room he was sharing with his girlfriend, stuffed one bag with his clothes, another with hers, and took a cab to a nearby laundromat. The couple had been staying at a hotel near his childhood home partly because the renovations he'd paid for left little room for them and partly because, for the first time, he could afford a nice ... International Herald Tribune - TUCSON, Ariz.: Manny Corpas considers himself a quiet person who'd rather blend in than stand out. That's been difficult for him to do after his breakout season as the Colorado Rockies' closer. Corpas couldn't even venture out over the offseason without being mobbed by fans seeking autographs. He has become as popular around his hometown of Panama City, Panama, as Mariano Rivera. Not that he's ready to lump himself into the same category as the dominant Yankees closer, who's had at least 28 saves in each of the last 11 seasons. "Mariano is Mariano," Corpas said through interpreter Joe Diaz, ... Read Full Story

Huston Street is taking over the closer role for the Colorado Rockies. Street, a right-hander acquired as part of a November trade with the Oakland Athletics involving for Matt Holliday, was named Colorado's closer before the Rockies' 7-4 victory over the Arizona Diamondbacks on Thursday. Street, who lost his closing role to Brad Ziegler with the A's last season, has beaten out Manuel Corpas despite early spring struggles. Colorado's Troy Tulowitzki was 3-for-3 with two runs scored and a double. Garrett Atkins went 2-for-4 with a double. Arizona's John Hester was 2-for-2 while Mark Reynolds had a double and Justin Upton had a two-run ... Read Full Story

Manuel Corpas is making a strong case to be the Colorado Rockies closer. The right-hander pitched another scoreless inning this spring, but the Rockies lost in 10 innings to the San Francisco Giants 7-3 Friday. Corpas opened the sixth by getting a harmless grounder to first before allowing a single to Pablo Sandoval. A double play quickly finished the inning. Corpas won the closer job at the end of camp a year ago but was replaced by Brian Fuentes, who signed in the offseason with the Angels. He has given up only two hits in four innings, while striking out two and walking none. ... Read Full Story

A year after being traded from the Oakland Athletics to the Colorado Rockies, former Chap Huston Street signed a three-year, $22.5 million contract to remain the Rockies’ closer. Jason Marquis, who proved last year that starting pitchers can enhance their value pitching for the Colorado Rockies, isn't sticking around to press his luck. Marquis, who gave the Rockies a solid 15-13 record with a 4.40 ERA and made the National League All-Star team last season, reportedly has agreed to a two-year deal with the Washington Nationals worth $15 million. The 31-year-old Marquis, who came to Colorado from the Chicago Cubs...
