Mara Escobar Raped, Abused Niece in 'Cinderella-Type Situation'

Police have charged Mara Escobar, 35, with beating and raping her 16-year-old niece after the girl opened up to authorities about abuses in the home.

Police say the 16-year-old was forced to do most of the housework and live in a sparse, bare bedroom while Escobar's two daughters had bedrooms with televisions, DVDs and videogames. They also say Escobar sexually assaulted her niece and raped her with foreign objects.

Escobar had been in custody of the girl for five years, after Escobar's sister left her there.

Escobar is currently being held on $25,000 cash bail. WHDH Ch.-7 in Boston has more.
