The St. Louis Rams got good news on wide receiver Donnie Avery, who underwent an MRI exam on his hip that revealed a bruise. They can't afford to lose any more players at a position that's been thin since training camp. Avery's injury early in Sunday's 23-20 overtime loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars deprived the winless Rams (0-6) of their only player able to stretch the field. Without him, the running game got shut down, especially in the second half, and the untested wide receivers the Rams had left weren't able to make enough plays. I would have to say that I have been a Marc Bulger apologist over the past two years. I was an apologist in the fact that I didn’t root for him to fail. It was and is one or the other with the divisive Rams quarterback. I didn’t think he was part of the problem. The Lions-Rams matchup this week is a meeting of two teams still trying to find themselves. Both teams have given up big numbers to opponents all year, so avoid either team defense like the plague. On the other hand, because the Rams and Lions defenses rank 30th and 31st in points per game given up to opponents, offensive players should be primed for a good day. Matthew Stafford is expected to make his return under center, and even if he is without freak-of-nature Calvin Johnson, he should be able to make some things happen through the air. If Calvin Johnson’s knee keeps him on ... Read Full Story
NEW YORK (Reuters) - St. Louis Rams linebacker David Vobora has been suspended for four games after testing positive for a banned substance. The NFL said Vobora had violated the league's policy on performance-enhancing substances, but provided no other details in a statement on Tuesday. Vobora's agent Marc Lillibridge said on NFL.com that his client had failed a doping test after taking a supplement tainted with the banned substance. Lillibridge said Vobora was planning to sue the company that made the supplement and that a toxicology report showed the product had been tainted. It was unclear what the substance was and when Vobora failed ... Read Full Story
