She eventually married Mottola, and became a superstar at the record label. The couple later divorced, but Carey continued to top the charts. She was the most successful artist of the 1990s in the United States, according to Billboard magazine.

If there was any doubt Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon's wedding was the real deal, they answer the question once and for all in this week's issue of PEOPLE, speaking for the first time about their surprise nuptials – and showing off exclusive photos from their April 30 ceremony."We really do feel we are soulmates," Carey tells PEOPLE, following their sunset ceremony at the pop star's Bahamian estate. "I never felt a love like this was in the cards for me."
Cannon adds: "She is beautiful on the outside and 10 times as beautiful on the inside."
