Casablanca: A Romantic City

Romanticized by one of the best Hollywood movies Casablanca, the Moroccan city of Casablanca is a pleasure to visit.

With an architectural heritage, a consequence of contributions by the colonial powers like the French, Portuguese, and Spain combine with the local Moroccan style of architecture, Casablanca has lot of historical buildings such as the Hassan II Mosque for the people to marvel at.

To cater to the tourists, there are amusement parks, museums, beaches and a modest night for some fun and frolic.

Location

Fondly called Casa, it is a neighbor to the city of Rabat by 70 kilometers, the Capital of the North African country of Morocco.

Climate

Located in a hot country of Morocco, Casablanca too is hot. The evenings in summer though are cool while the winter could turn out to be chilly. The months between November and April have phases of rainy season, yet with most of days being dry.

While the city is good enough for a visit throughout the year, the best time to visit Casa would be the months of July and August, when the weather is relatively warm.

Getting to Casa

For international tourists, there are a number of flights servicing from major destinations to Casablanca. The airport here is the busiest one in the North African country of Morocco.

There are regular flights from major European destinations like France, Spain and other countries that can take you to Casablanca. The city is well-connected to countries in the Middle East, Sub-Saharan Africa and North America as well as destinations like New York.

From the airport, there is an underground train that operates between midnight and 6 am to the city. A number of buses and taxis are other options to get into the city from the airport.

For navigating through the city, there options of buses, taxis by meter or shared taxis that also operate between cities. A good way to explore the city would be to reach a particular destination on either of these modes of transport and thereafter walk down the streets around. You could also avail taxis for a private tour.

Tourist activities in Casablanca

There is plenty to see and do in Casablanca. The ambience of the city sets it up as a tourist destination. There are beaches like the Mohammedia resort for unwinding yourself and there are marvelous historical buildings, especially reflecting the Mauresque style of architecture for you appreciate.

For the self-indulgent ones, there are hammams across the city and the Hammam Zaki, slightly posh one that act as stress busters. You could catch the train for some nearby places like Rabat, or Marrakech, a place popular for its shopping streets, if you are game for excursions. The nightlife, though modest, is characterized by some good bars and cafes, especially at some resorts around the city.

There is an amusement park too here – the Yasmina Amusement Park, with modest rides and a venue for a good family time.

Casablanca is for slow-paced travelers, who like to wander around trying to know the city better.  There are museums and a special mention should go to the Jewish Museum here, the only one in any Muslim country. The city is for the more relaxed ones, who are travelling just for the joy of it and like to get familiar with an otherwise new place.
