The Fall + Martha Wainwright + more added to MTV Liverpool Music Week

With only 6 weeks to go until the UK’s biggest indoor winter music festival returns to Liverpool and with a peppering of ticketed shows already announced including Goldfrapp, Dizzee Rascal, Black Kids, and an already sold-out show with Vampire Weekend. LMW are pleased to announce the second wave of acts for this year’s MTV Liverpool Music Week, sponsored by edc by Esprit. Featuring some of the UK’s hottest acts of the moment, this is one of several teaser announcements which LMW will be releasing over the next few weeks, creating one of the finest festival agendas of the year.
LMW have some very special acts confirmed for this year’s Opening night performing across various venues throughout the city. Kicking things off on Thursday 30th October at Nation is without doubt one of the UK’s most influential post punk bands: legendary Manchester band The Fall, who released their 27th studio album this year. Formed in 1976, The Fall and their enigmatic frontman Mark E. Smith’s cult following has kept them at the top of their game and they are responsible for influencing many major artistes including Franz Ferdinand, The Smiths, LCD Soundsystem, Nirvana and the Happy Mondays. As well as being championed by BBC Radio 1’s John Peel from early on in their career, Peel also credited them as his favourite band of all time. The Fall are a band that has stood the test of time and remain as influential today as they ever was. The Fall + Guests, Thursday 30th October, Nation, Tickets on sale now, £16+BF

On the same night, the unmissable Martha Wainwright headlines Liverpool’s Philarmonic Hall. Sister of Rufus & daughter of the legendary Louden Wainwright III, Martha is a highly celebrated songwriter in her own right will be making her Liverpool debut at one of the city’s most historical musical venues. Following the success of her critically acclaimed second album, this very talented soulful songstress is set for worldwide stardom following a hugely successful 2008, proving that SHE could be the unassuming superstar of the Wainwright family. Martha will be joined by aussie siblings Angus & Julius Stone. This pleasantly unassuming duo, moved to the UK following a chance meeting with Travis frontman Fran Healy, having spotted the pair performing, he invited them to come to his house to work on some demos their critically acclaimed album A Book Like This was born. They are refreshingly modest about their talent and remain non plussed regarding their success. As this album recently went gold in Australia and on the other side of the world, a successful UK tour supporting Newton Faulkner and supporting David Gray was book-ended by their own sold out London Shows. This event will be one of the most memorable performances of this years festival and proves the quality of acts LMW have in store for you this year. Martha Wainwright & Angus & Julius Stone, Thursday 30th October, Liverpool Philarmonic, Tickets on sale now, £16-£22.50+BF.

If Opening night gets you in the mood for more music, be sure to head over to Nation the following night on Friday 31st October for the Bestival Reunion Tour. Following their sell out IOW festival last week, Bestival have teamed up with LMW & local promoter Evol to put together a bolstering line-up to keep you entertained. LMW welcome back for their 2nd consecutive LMW appearance, headliners Mystery Jets, who have recently released their 2nd album to critical acclaim which was produced predominantly by DJ legend Erol Alkan. Joining them as special guests are aussie electronic duo The Presets, a heavy tour schedule over the summer at some of the UK’s hottest festivals, has built this bands fanbase to even greater heights. The bands unique 80’s electronic sound even brought them to the attention of the legendary Daft Punk, who invited them on their Nevereverland Tour, without doubt one of the hottest acts of the year! Others on the bill include Kissy Sell Out with his not-to-be missed live show, Sombrero Soundsystem, the ever entertaining naked breakdancing Cuban Brothers (has to be seen to be believed!) and BBC Radio 1’s Rob Da Bank. Bestival Reunion Party at Nation on Friday 31st October, tickets on sale now, £15+BF, 8pm-2am.

We’re also pleased to announce artist additions to shows already on sale. Ladyhawke one of the hottest acts of the moment and Magistrates, a fresh, cutting edge and unashamedly sexual band that play music for the mind, feet and hips. Hailing from Essex, this 4 piece were one of the highlights from BBC Radio 1’s Big Weekend. Both complete a fantastic line-up for Black Kids headline show at Nation on Saturday 1st November.

For Dizzee Rascal’s Sunday 2nd November slot at Liverpool University - support will come from electronic trio Newham Generals, Smurfie Syco & Chromeo.
