While UFC is one of the most popular sports in the world, there are problems with it. Let us be honest, while some attacker is using that Gracie Jujitsu to apply a lock or hold, he is rolling around and vulnerable to an attack from his opponents friends. Not to mention that it is not always the most intelligent thing to roll around on the ground while some fellow is trying to penetrate your body with a knife or broken bottle. I know I have offended some Mixed Martial Arts stylists out there, but these are questions that people should not hide from. After ... Read Full Story

Martial arts typically refers to a number of sophisticated fighting methods, chiefly from Asian countries like China, Japan, Korea, Philippines, Thailand, Burma, India, Indonesia and Vietnam. There is also a traditional view that any European contribution to martial arts is limited to boxing or wrestling. But, the truth is that the West too has its share of highly sophisticated fighting systems. The term Martial Arts itself means the art of warfare. Military martial arts training or Combatives, as it is called, is the training that is given to the police and the military. In military warfare, combatants are taught hand to hand warfare. They ... I was reading an article a while back about the Samurai where the author stated that "Aikido" was the martial art of the Samurai. To the average person that may sound reasonable. But due to the fact that the founder of Aikido died in 1969 and the Samurai caste was abolished in the late 1800's, this would have been impossible. This mistake hit home for me personally because I teach "Aikijutsu" which was what the author should have stated as one of the arts of the Samurai if he had done his research. One might say "What is the difference?" Well, the difference is ... Read Full Story

The climactic scene in "Ong Bak 2: The Beginning," a fierce battle between the put-upon Tien (played by actor/director Tony Jaa) and an ever-expanding hive of willing yet incompetent ninjas, is such a brutal and beautiful explosion of choreography and kung-fu craziness that it qualifies as one of the best martial-arts fight scenes ever. Apparently, Jaa and co-director/writer Panna Rittikrai thought so, too, because they really didn't come up...
