Today is the anniversary of the death of Yip Man (aka Ip Man, 葉問 ). Yip Man was the first martial arts teacher (Sifu) to teach the art of Wing Chun openly. He had several students who later became martial arts teachers in their own right, including the world famous Bruce Lee. A kung fu movie based on the life of Yip Man was released in 2008 titled IP MAN . The huge increase in popularity of the UFC and mixed martial arts events has brought life back the the martial arts industry and a surge in new schools. Martial arts have always had a serious following and still held many tournaments and Olympic events for individual arts like TaeKwonDo , Judo , and Karate .
