Barack Obama got down with the Catholic Social Justice lingo in the Notre Dame commencement speech . However, as you might expect, it was a much different speech than the one he gave to Planned Parenthood on July 17, 2007: Is the man who denigrated pro-life advocates as being unhip nitwits in the culture wars “which are so 1990” the same tolerant guy who said this to the Notre Dame graduating class of 2009? “ Each side will continue to make its case to the public with passion and conviction. By William Donahue Harvard Law Professor Mary Ann Glendon has written an open letter to Notre Dame president Rev. John Jenkins explaining why she cannot accept the Laetare Medal on Commencement Day, May 17. By Matt C. Abbott Noted Catholic scholar/writer Charles E. Rice, professor emeritus of law at the University of Notre Dame Law School, has authored a new book titled What Happened to Notre Dame?, published by St. Augustine's Press. From the Web site of St. Augustine's Press: 'When the University of Notre Dame announced that President Barack Obama would speak at its 2009 Commencement and would receive an honorary doctor of laws degree, the reaction was more than anyone expected. NEW YORK (CNS) -- Mary Ann Glendon was "the heroine of the Notre Dame commencement tragedy" in May, an official of the National Right to Life Committee said as the Harvard law professor and former U.S. ambassador to the Vatican received the organization's Proudly Pro-Life Award Oct. 6.
