UGO just landed what I believe is the first clip from Matthew Vaughn’s upcoming (and apparently insane) comic-book movie, Kick-Ass.  The film was one of the breakout successes of this year’s San Diego Comic-Con and after seeing this clip, I can see why.  The film is about superheroes who don’t have special powers but that [...]

Director Matthew Vaughn likes to do things his own way. When his friend, comic book writer Mark Millar, approached him with the idea of making a movie based on his Kick-Ass comic book, Vaughn refused to leave it up to "the whores in Hollywood." Instead, he went out and raised Kick-Ass's $50 million budget himself. One of the ways Vaughn avoided the inflated budgets of other "superhero" movies is by filming as much as possible with his...

Those sneaky French! Last week, Lionsgate debuted the teaser trailer for Matthew Vaughn's Kick-Ass. Because of an accidental early leak, that teaser kind of got lost in the mix with the Clash of the Titans trailer (which was also released the same day). So, in an effort to give this great trailer some time in the spotlight on its own, and also because it's pretty cool to see with commentary, I'm featuring this new version of the same teaser...

Freakin' sweet! IGN has debuted the first four character posters for Matthew Vaughn's Kick-Ass tonight. By now everyone has probably heard about this (or seen the leaked Comic-Con footage), so I don't think it needs an elaborate introduction. Kick-Ass is the adaptation of Mark Millar's awesome comic series about a kid who decides to dress up and be a superhero. While it could've been a goofy, Hollywood spoof, Vaughn went all out to make sure...

I'm a big fan of commentary tracks and would likely listen to a couple a day if my schedule permitted it. That's even despite the almost constant disappointment they present when the participants simply resort to describing the action on screen or puffing things up with a bunch of 'amusing' production anecdotes. Not every track can be Lars von Trier or Steven Soderbergh debating with their collaborators, I suppose. Trailers with commentary...

When first we heard that director Matthew Vaughn was heroically raising the necessary $30 million himself to adapt Mark Millar's comic-book series Kick-Ass — just because studios were too scared to produce a film in which F-bomb-dropping teenagers inflicted spectacular amounts of ultraviolence on one another — we saluted his bravery. And here's the movie's teaser trailer! Kick-Ass stars Nowhere Boy's Aaron Johnson as a regular high...

A few weeks ago, Lionsgate unveiled the first awesome trailer and first badass poster for Matthew Vaughn's Kick-Ass comic book movie. AICN has just debuted another new character poster for Red Mist, the other wanna-be superhero that Christopher Mintz-Plasse plays in the movie. He teams up with Kick-Ass, played by Aaron Johnson, and well, they kick some gangster ass. I don't know much more about the plot than that, but I don't want to know more...

A new red-band trailer for Kick-Ass has come online and it shows off the delightful insanity folks are talking about when they mention Matthew Vaughn’s upcoming superhero action flick.  The film centers on regular people who dress up in costumes and fight crime and make a bloody, highly-entertaining mess of things. While she’s a supporting character, [...]

Rent It The Movie:Before he started directing movies on his own, including Layer Cake, Matthew Vaughn was close friends with Guy Ritchie (RocknRolla), and the two of them collaborated, with Vaughn producing several of Ritchie's films. They helped revive the British gangster film and provided it with critical recognition in the late '90s. In fact, before Ritchie's wife Madonna was wearing...

Raising Finance without Hollywood Matthew Vaughn may well prove to be a great director, but it was his expert producing skills that finally got his latest film, Kick-Ass off the ground. Having produced more films than he’s directed, British filmmaker Matthew Vaughn has a perspective that’s quite different to those who normally helm movies. He certainly has [...]

When studios refused to fund Matthew Vaughn's adaptation of Mark Millar and John Romita, Jr.'s comic Kick-Ass, Vaughn figured out how to independently finance the thing himself. And as soon as Vaughn was finished shooting it, and soon as everyone realized that it looked fucking awesome, studios like Lionsgate and Universal jumped at the chance to distribute the thing. Here's a pretty fantastic red-band trailer focusing on one of Kick-Ass...

Everyone was rumbling about director Matthew Vaughn's pet project, Kick-Ass, at Comic-Con this year, and now we finally get a peek at the official trailer. For those of you who aren't fanboys, let me explain: The film is based on the Marvel comic about a loner teenage boy (Aaron Johnson) who decides to become a superhero - despite the fact that he doesn't have any actual powers. That's when he teams up with Damon Macready (Nicolas Cage) and...
